predict function
I am using R to do a loess normalisation procedure.
In 1.5.1 I used the following commands to normalise the variable "logratio",
over a 2d surface (defined by coordinates x and y):
> array <- read.table("121203B_QCnew.txt", header=T, sep="\t")
> array$logs555<-log(array$s555)/log(2)

Windows on IDE, Linux on SCSI, bad BIOs can syslinux help?
Hello to the list!
Someone said I could use syslinux to get GRUB to boot SCSI and/or IDE.
My problem is that I have Windows on IDE (XP) and Linux on SCSI
(Ubuntu). When GRUB is on the SCSI drive it can't see the IDE drive,
possibly because the BIOs doesn't support that. So I have to go into
the BIOs and change the boot order on every O/S change.
Will I just have the same problem as

Doesn't make a difference.
You're probably running with a 2.2 Kernel, right?
The limit has nothing to do in that case with the fs but just the kernel.
2.4.x has no limits.

ifs estimator
Hy all,
I have written a small library that provide a new distribution function
estimator based on IFS (that are essentially fractals).
I would be pleased if any of you can build hte library for Unix-type
machines and Windows implementations with the included makefiles as a
Mac library is already working. As I'm not able to test these platforms
any modification to makefiles is welcome.

RAqua and AquaTclTk
While playing around with panther I discovered (with surprise) that
tcltk seems to work (even if not smoothly) with RAqua without first
calling tkStartGUI.
I switched back to 10.2.6 and it works as well.
I think this is due to the "last minute" fix in RAqua now using idle
timers because of too much cpu usage.
Some "mouse" trick is needed though. If you want to test it you

R Cocoa GUI 1.12 (R 2.1.1 Framework) crashes on acf() (PR#8032)
After I upgraded my installation of R for OS X (Tiger) to 1.12, it
consistently crashes when calling the function acf() [stats lib].

Mac Test
R 1.4.0 is now sinking into feature freeze, and I'd like some help
testing it under Macintosh (from Sys 8.6 to X).
I've put a copy of R140b1 at
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~iacus/R
there are two files: R140b1.sit and R140b1.sit.hqx
download only one of the two.
Many tests have been done but you help will be precious. Several things
have been changed or implemented both in R internals

Quartz device for Darwin R (MacOS X)
This announce is for Mac R developers mostly.
I have just updated the R-devel repository with a brand new quartz()
device.
This will allow the Darwin build of R to display graphics without the
need of X11.
The device is in its first release so it is needed more feedback as
possible to let it become the true natural graphics device of Darwin R.
You should try to build R from the R-devel
