They are not all coded that way, and some cannot be. Neither they nor jackd should be entrusted with God-like superuser powers. -- joq

ices-kh60: latency bug
hello, I've just got ices-kh60 running with jack. It's working OK apart from a problem where the latency on the stream creeps up from about 15-20 secs to around 7 minutes. The stream plays OK, but the audio coming out is 7 minutes behind what goes in. I'm not sure how this can be happening, seeing as I don't think there are any buffers that long in the system, but it is.

Asterisk and Jack
Hi, I want to use asterisk with jack audio. I tried the next configurations : 1 ) app_jack.so -> does not work. 2 ) chan_alsa.so without jackd started my .asoundrc : pcm.!default { type hw card 1 } pcm.jack1 { type jack playback_ports { 0 alsa_pcm:playback_1 1 alsa_pcm:playback_2 } capture_ports { 0 alsa_pcm:capture_1 1 alsa_pcm:capture_2 } } pcm.jack1b { type plug devi...

wine+wineasio under mac os x 10.6
I've been using JackWASIO and 10.5 Leopard fine, but since I switched to Snow Leo 10.6 I can't find a way to use wineasio low latency driver at all. Have tried to install some version of Wine (that comes with WineBottler) and a new CrossOver Games 8.0 but no luck: wineasio doesn't appear in the Audio preferences of winecfg. Is there a clear way (for someone who aren't in developing

Definite app_jack trouble - unsolvable
...pp_jack has a problem here. My voice gets transmitted fine, but I only get white noise from the other party. I tried to set my JACK samplerate to 8000 to make sure it's no libresample problem, the results were the same. My setup is: Linux Debian Lenny Kernel: 2.6.30.4 PREEMPT (self-built) JACKd: jackd version 0.119.0 tmpdir /tmp protocol 24 (self-built from source repository) Asterisk: 1.6.2.8-rc1 built from source-tarball Just today I installed libjingle 0.4.0, the latest I could find from code.google.com, as well as iksemel from source-tarball. Just to be on the safe site I trie...

ices-kh60: latency bug
...s that spring to mind. Icecast 2.2 did have a problem in certain cases when it came across digital silence. The problem manifested itself by increasing the burst at start-up (increasing latency), 2.3 did correct for this so doesn't suffer from it. The data delivered to ices is regulated by jackd and it has been known that the jackd dummy driver has had next to useless timing, make sure you use the alsa driver in jackd. karl.

Wine1.4-rc5 breaks (jack)audio setup
Hi there, since upgrading to wine1.4-rc-5, anytime that i either A). Launch winecfg/audio-tab or B). Launch any wine app, Wine tries to open an ALSA device and crashes Jackd. ~ the only exception would be Festige/FST which will launch my wineVST instruments and work as expected. On my system, Jackd is the default Sound server (ie: i t runs ALL of the time, this also includes using the ALS-to-Jack bridge, mainly for Adobe FLash). So now, wine attempts to use ALSA(and t...

app_jack unavailable
...14.4.0 on Debian Jessie (8.7). And I am running the Asterisk server, with several extensions and dialplans, all working well. However I am struggling to get app_jack to run. In menuselect I can see that it is XXX due to dependencies on jack and resample, however both Debian packages: resample and jackd are installed in this machine. Is there something that I am missing? What do I need to do in order to have the jack module to run? Cheers -- oooooooooo.io bibliotecha.info

CentOS for musicians?
...setting up everything by hand? A repository that would provide low-latency kernel (realtime one?): I've found the CentOS-RT from the CERN + (1)). Specific tools (from Jack/qjackctl, carla, audacity .. to the DAW), I've found stuff on different repositories. On a CentOS7 box I could setup jackd, audacity/lmms (from the sources) and reaper (ardour from nux depo is way to old), I know what to use at end-user software but would like to find a CentOS variant/repo where software is recent (sometimes critical for audio devices). Any advice? (1) https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/re...

CPU load
...rocesses to the soundcard. My operating system is Linux Mandrake 10.0 with kernel 2.6. The drivers for soundcard is ALSA 1.0.6. My Hardware is Pentium4 HT 2,8 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. Operating system recognizes two logical CPUs and distributes the load between these devices. When I start icecast, jackd and 12 ices processes in this PC, I can see that these processes use about 80% of the CPU time. My question is: is such a usage of CPU normal or not? What parameters of ices configuration file can be changed to optimize consumption of CPU time? I know, that a managed bitrate requires more CPU time...

ext3 + pipes/sockets
Hi, I'm running jack+ardour and noticed the following: Jackd uses named pipes and sockets which are located on /tmp. If I mount /tmp as ext3 I get latency problems. When I mount /tmp as ext2 everything works fine. As far as I know named pipes and sockets have no disk interaction. What is the difference? Mick

Persuing the gtalk issue - not only jack-related
Hello everyone! So I hacked app_jack.c today, as best I could. Whic came mostly down to inserting ast_log() messages. I discovered the following with JACK: When it starts, it tries to read 512 bytes and only gets 0. That clears up after a while. Sometimes a good time later than the reading comes the writing. And there the real strangeness might begin. Because usually the framebuffer

possible regression in wine1.2-rc7 - GUI and VSTs
...e for quite a while, with many applications. mostly though, i am using wine for VST support via wineASIO. For the most part, this method works extremely well. many of the plugins i use work pretty much flawlessly. the only real exception is that occasionally the VST's GUI will cause an xrun in jackd. this hardly ever matters, as most of the time i am not using the GUI's and am usually controlling my VSTi/VST with midi. however, this week i have upgraded to 1.2rc-7 from 1.2rc-6. Now several plugins that used to not cause a single xrun, are causing an xrun when the applications first load,...

is there a way to insert 'description' for a relayed stream?
...n't show up at the YPs. Nothing at loglevel=4 is saying this line gets rejected, either. I don't see a way to add such info to any other component in the icecast.xml e.g. <relay>, <listen-socket>, <mount>, etc. or thru admin webbrowser metadata updates. I'm using jackd-cvs and darkice-cvs (see my other messages posted to those lists for details). I know the "shouter" is suppose to send this description info. Yes I could create another section in darkice.cfg specific for [icecast2] and add this info to it there, but we'd be doing double-duty co...
