re| Dr Ward on List protocol
...asting harm to the cosseted & emolumated students
and academics on the List.
On a Wall St trading desk, for example, every day one is kicked in the head
more brutally by clients, superiors, counterparts, the markets & etc, than
ever one would be by the Professor.
Plus, the Professor's jabs are good Schadenfreudic fun for the rest of us. .

template homedir and idmap_ad
Some empirical testing shows that if I am using the idmap_ad module the
template homedir parameter in smb.conf is ignored. I would just like to
determine if this is the correct behaviour or if I am doing something wrong.

Note the separation between the store prior to the fence and the code that

plot portion of a line
Dear HelpeRs,
Given:
x <- rnorm(50)
y <- rnorm(50)
plot(x,y)
abline(lm(x ~ y))
Is there a way to plot just a portion of the line? Say for values of x
> 2.0 or x > -2.0 and x < 4.0. (Still fitting all the points.)
Thank you,
jab

a decimal aligned column
Hello,
For numbers in the range 100 to 100,000,000 I'd like to decimal align
a right-justified comma-delineated column of numbers, but I haven't
been able to work out the proper format statement. format(num,
justify=right, width=15, big.mark=",") gets me close, but numbers
larger than 1,000,000 project a digit beyond the right edge of the
column, which I really don't

stacked plots
Dear helpeRs,
Is there a better method of producing stacked charts than
par(mfrow(3,1)), plot(x), plot(y), plot(z)? What I would like to do is
produce a chart of several panes stacked vertically with no space
between them so they appeared to be a single figure. I've attached a
small example, though it is not clear that it will make it, as the
posting guide doesn't say which sort of images

Migration Errors
Hi,
I am trying to migrate a domain (testDomain) from node1 to node2.
Here is some information about the problem:
node1#: xm migrate testDomain node2
After the command is executed, there is some communication between the node1 and node2 Xen hosts.
xfrd daemon (which is forked by xend) is primarily responsible for vm migration and there is error in its log (/var/log/xfrd.log)

accessing header information in a table
Dear list, I have read an excel table into R using read.table() and headers=T. The table is 7 columns of figures. Is there any way to gain access to the header information? Say the table headers are Mon, Tue etc I can get to the data with myTable$Tue, but how do I get the headers themselves.

HOWTO? Upgrade Centos-2 to Centos-3
I've been Googling on this all day, installing GPG Keys, and trying
different yum configurations. I noticed a similar question in the list a
couple of months ago about going from RHEL to Centos-3, but the answer
wasn't definitive.
Has anyone done this? Can this be done? Can it be done with yum? If so,
how?
When I 'yum update' I get /usr/bin/yum, yummain.main, yummain.py,

Samba hangs
On 3 occasions in the last 2 week my samba server has hung up. It has
occurred each time when I am trying to do a full backup copy of the
file server.
It appears to be happening at the same place, I'm guessing based on the
number of files which are being transfered. When I look at the rsync
which is running I just see a long line of files with I/O errors.
When I try to shutdown

SAMBA + OPENLDAP - Getent - Please help :)
I have setup a SAMBA + OPENLDAP server following Samba-3 By Example, but I have run into several problems. All the tests described in the Chapter 6 such as pdbedit -Lv, slapcat, and ldapsearch -x -b give the desired results. But, getent can't read passwd or group information from ldap backend. I have done my best to solve the problem, but it just doesn't work. I have compiled the nss_ldap

smbcquotas (Need help with command syntax)
I need to setup quota on //server/home for user a to 1GB
and
on //server/client (for all users on this share) to 10GB
May you please let me know the exact command to be used for this? Also, do I need to add any other parameter in smb.conf in order to make quotas work? I have compiled samba with quotas option.
Thank you.
