1.9.17p4 - Hanging smbd on logout ?!
Dear Samba Developers, OS: Linux 2.0.31 Samba1.9.17p4 today I detected that smbstatus shows more users logged in as really using the samba service. It seems that at logoff sometimes the smbd won't die and won't free the used tcp/ip socket: Output from "netstat -a": Active Internet connections (including servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi, I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem, same with rlogin works): Logged in with 'ssh machine -l user1' # who user1 ttyq0 Jun 19 15:17 (xxxxx.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de) # ypcat passwd |grep user1 user1:xxxxxxxxxxxxx:1535:1500:User1:/usr/people/user1:/bin/tcsh # ypcat passwd |grep

Printing an extra blank page all the time.
Hi, I'm running samba-3.0.5 on OpenBSD 3.5. I'm trying out using samba as a print server for the first time, and it works ok, but I have this problem where everytime I print anything, a additional blank page comes out of the printer at the end of what was just printed. It's an old HP Laserjet 4 connected to the parallel port of the samba server. /etc/printcap lp|HP4|HP Laserjet

encrypted passwords and /etc/passwd
Hello Why is it necessary to specify encrypt passwords = no to make Samba server start using solely /etc/passwd? Isn't it possible to tell Samba server that on the way between a client and the server, the passwords sould be encrypted, and after decryption, they will be checked against /etc/passwd and not smbpasswd, tdb or whatever backend? increasing the # of socket connections
Dear "R-help"ers, using snow on socket connections, I ran into the following error > cl <- makeSOCKcluster(hosts) Error in socketConnection(port = port, server = TRUE, blocking = TRUE : all connections are in use with "showConnections(all=T)" showing 50 open connections. As - for administrative reasons - I would prefer to use snow's SOCK capabilities (instead

cca and cca.predict in vegan-what sort of prediction is possible
Hi All I am not clear quite how one could use cca from package vegan and the associated predict.cca to predict species abundance from environmental data (or if this is possible in a generalised way). In other words, can one derive a cca object based on known community data and use that to predict e.g. species abundances in a different number of samples based on environmental data? The help

Upgrade Novell 4.11 to Samba 3.0.7 wisdom needed
Has anybody done such a thing as this? I'm looking to make this transition as smooth as possible. I have the new fileserver up and running, and I'm using rsync to keep the Novell data current on the Samba server. Any words of advice on transferring the users and groups and permissions over to the new server in the least painful way possible? I have some idea that Novell uses LDAP

remote subnet browsing and NT4.0SP3
Hello, I have a samba 1.9.18p4 server running as a domain master browser on a subnet, with some clients distributed on other subnets. If there are only Win 95 clients on a subnet, browse sync works - but not if there are Win NT 4.0 SP3 machines on that subnet. Error from nmdb (at log level 3): sync_with_lmb: Initiating sync with local master browser MAILHEIDELBERG<0x20> at IP

more 'Quota/disk space display in windows'
See my note from yesterday about quota size displays for reference I have just been looking at the source code. (long time since I did C, so forgive me if I stuff something up royally) in source/smbd/ntquotas.c there is code that corrects for block sizes other than 1024, which would work correctly IFF the *bsize is set correctly (should be 512 on my FreeBSD system but i don't know how to

XP Home logon scripts
Hiya Yesterday I had to face the XP Home logon script monster and came up with something that appears to work ok. Issue is the XP Home will not do a domain login and therefore not run the logon script, nor map the home drive using 'net use h: /home' My solution is to put a batch file into c:\documents and settings\username that contains net use h: \\server\username

users on W2k
Hiya I'm using Samba as my PDC, and this is fine for desktops since most of them are still Win98. However, the bosses laptop has W2k and used to work fine under the Novell client. ie there was one user on the laptop and those setting were used when logged into Novell and when not connected to the net. Now, with the domain we seem to be stuck with having 2 users, one the local machine

FreeBSD 5.2.1-R Samba 3.0.7 from ports quotas enabled on the ufs2 filesystems samba compiled '--with-quotas' ok, a user gets a quota set like this edquota -e /home:8672278:8774678:0:0 denis now, those numbers are in 512 byte blocks and should represent
