Problem with wireless router
Hello, I am using wireless N on a DLink-655 wireless router. It is the "A" hardware version with the latest firmware. I am using a channel that no one in my vicinity is using, according to iwlist. I checked the Statistics from the router web interface and they are shown below for a period of less than an hour. It looks like the errors are excessive, especially the "RX Packets Dropped" Is this par for the course and TCP takes care of it or am I having hardware problems with my ro...

Recommendation for a Linux alternative to Centos - ATH9K disaster
...with Micro$oft Windoze 7. His super-duper new laptop arrived. Acer, AMD 4 core, fast etc. but not as nice looking as my impressive HP DV5. The wireless refused to connect. After 8 hours on Saturday I could sometimes see hubs in the neighbourhood but could not connect to my own hub using WPA2. iwlist wlan0 scan produced technical details of local hubs - but still could not connect. NetworkManager sometimes froze. Spent many hours Googling for his wifi adaptor Altheros AR928K which uses a driver known as ATH9K. Many others have had a similar problem. Kernel 2.6.27 apparently includes this dri...

Centos 4 & Cisco 350 MiniPCI Wireless
I have an IBM Thinkpad with this beastie in it. The card was immediately recognized and uses the airo driver. No matter what I do, I can't get it to successfully connect to my WAP. Sometimes it sees the access point (as evidenced by an iwlist wifi0 scan seeing the network) and sometimes I can actually get it to connect ( as evidenced by the iwlist command showing the WAP ID). Eventually the connection between the card and the AP simply dies. I'm not new to wireless and have had no problems manually configuring other wireless ca...

Monitor Wireless Networks
Hi, I am having interference with my neighbouring wireless networks. Is there a linux tool that enables me to monitor the ESSID, channel, power output and other information for neighbouring wireless networks? I am especially interested in the channel so I can choose a different one. Thank you, Joe

Wireless DELL M90 with CentOS 5.1
Hi, I have a laptop DELL M90 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card. After installed new rpm drivers (see below), my card is recognized and I can see my wireless acces point with (iwlist - iwconfig) but it's impossible to connect to it. It seem that I can't obtain an IP address. In the log message I have "dhclient : DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval ) The same laptop installed in Windows XP connect imediatly to my wireless acces point. Other Wi...

Two WiFi routers
...er, I almost certainly made some mistake setting up the second router/AP, which is actually an ancient Netopia router from my ISP, whose manual says it can be used as an AP. I see it with "arp -a" on my server, but I've now noticed I don't see it on my Android phone, or with "iwlist scan" on my laptop. Apologies, I don't think this router/AP is working ... -- Timothy Murphy gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin

Activating Wireless from command line
...eate the connection. But when I return to that network weeks later, it should be very easy to complete the connection. This needs to be done in the host machine, not in the clients. So far, I've figured out the following: I issued the following iwconfig wlan0 up (Manually I issued iwlist wlan0 scan | grep ESSID and identified the right network ) I then issued wpa_passphrase {ename} "{pass-phrase}" >> /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf where {ename} is the name of the network, case sensitive and {pass-phrase} is the same as I would enter in the GUI interf...

how to get ASUS USB-N13 802.11n net adapter working on 5.5?
first, the short form of the question -- has anyone got that wireless adapter working on centos 5.5 and associated with an access point that uses WPA/WPA2 security? and the details. in a classroom where there is *no* wired networking at all, all PCs have only that wireless net adapter, which works fine on windows but, after installing centos 5.5, unsurprisingly, we have no networking. there

text-mode system and /media
I'm running a headless server, so no GUI, just ssh logins. I don't seem to have the mechanism that automounts USB drives to a subdirectory of /media, and from googling around I think that's a feature of a GUI-based system. What implements it? Right now I manually create a mountpoint in /mnt and then manually mount by label from /dev/disk/by-label after plugging the drive in. It
