Emacs and Ispell, Aspell and Hunspell
...3.1.1 I am trying to get a spell checker working in emacs.
Previously I used aspell and everything "just worked". Now I gather
that hunspell is the norm but after installing it, when I try it it
"just doesn't work".
If I try to (for instance) spell check a region (ispell-region) the
session hangs and a "ps axfu" from another seesion reveals:

The trick is to install them in "aspell" directory in the home directory
created for emacs.
Then i have the followings in my .emacs:
;; set exec path for spell checking
(setq exec-path (append exec-path (list (concat usb-home-dir
"aspell/bin"))))
(setq ispell-program-name "aspell")
;; for spell checking while typing: turn on flyspell
(setq text-mode-hook '(lambda() (flyspell-mode t) ))
;;flyspell uses "-l" with ispell for faster region checking. The equivalent
aspell command is "list":

Does CentOS support aspell?
I haven't run CentOS on a machine of my own for several years;
but my domain (NOT the address I post from) is hosted on a machine
running CentOS. The list for the mailer I run recommends using aspell,
which is not installed (according to rpm -q) on the remote host, as a
spellchecker.
Does anybody here know offhand if CentOS supports it? Or how do I
check?

Description :
GNU Aspell is a spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell. It can
either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker. Its main
feature is that it does a much better job of coming up with possible
suggestions than just about any other spell checker out there for the
English language, including Ispell and Microsoft Word. It also has many

ttda on R 2.1.1: error
Hello,
I'm trying to use the package ttda, wich is involved in text analysis,
for my own data about answers in a company survey.
I've installed it, as well as ispell, but when trying to use an example:

> cat("{comment - stupid data file} \n" , file = zz)

I found two tests of MiBench in test-suite are NOT tested correctly.
#1. test-suite/MultiSource/Benchmarks/MiBench/office-ispell
#2. test-suite/MultiSource/Benchmarks/MiBench/telecomm-adpcm
Case #1, the test program outputs an error message, 'Illegal format
hash table'. And test is NOT executed!
Case #2, the test program hangs in somewhere and NEVER return. The
test script, RunSafely.sh just ignores this test becaus...

First steps towards a simple text stream format.
...;s quite clear that the actual implementation of the format outlined here
wouldn't be 10 years of work. However, a good toolchain to actually use the
format would probably take alot of time. If anyone's tried extracting a
subtitle stream from a DVD using transcode, subtitle2pgm, gocr, ispell and
a couple more tools, you know it isn't exactly inuitive. Hence, it wouldn't
hurt to have a (graphical) tool which could convert dvd subtitles into this
magic format in a manner which is more intuitive.
Anyway, I hope that in the years to come some people will actually create...
