Directory with ! in filename
I've been getting the error below and the only thing I can see odd about the
directory is the ! in the directory name. That and there is a space at the
end of the text which doesn't seem like it should be there either. There
are no permissions issues with accessing the directory and the directory
does exist. Does anyone know if the ! will cause a problem or will rsync
escape the special

odfWeave UTF-8 error and latin characters
Hello R masters,
I have sent this same message to other lists and none so far could give some
light. I was trying to use odfWeave to generate a report from R and Im
getting an error that I think is related to latin characters. I looked
around and did find some stuff related to this problem about Sweave

but

"ISO-8859-1" and Dovecot, using Solaris iconv, not recognising it (all
the Solaris 8 iconv modules appear to be "ISO8859-1" etc. or just "8859-1").
This isn't a problem in Linux:
% iconv --list | grep 8859.1/
8859_1//
ISO-8859-1//
ISO8859-1//
ISO885911//
ISO_8859-1//
I've hacked together a patch for Dovecot to try matching without the
"ISO-" prefix if matching fails at first, which works for Solaris (as
would creating an extra symbolic link in /usr/lib/iconv or hacking
Prayer to use "ISO8859-1") and it doesn't break Linux, bu...

the undocumented dos / unix / display charsets, but NOWHERE anything explaining
these new keywords in smb.conf. I have iconv installed, and I assume that on
the Linux-side, 8859-1 has been used so far (is there a way to determine
this???).
What do I need if I have ISO_8859-1 on the Windows 2000 clients as well? Do
I need all three parameters? And there is some strange behaviour, when I
tried the charset-parameters, I could use the dos charset parameter, but if I set
the unix charset parameter, I get a "no interfaces found" error (with or w/o

vorbiscomment and UTF-8
Hi!
I think it is supposed to save all the comments in UTF-8 encoding.
But I think all files I write to my files with 'vorbiscomment -w
file.ogg -c tag' are saved in standard ISO-8859-1(5).
How can I change this?
Thanks for help.
Stefan

RFD: Internationalizing the menu system
I know quite a few people have interest in internationalizing the menu
system. This is a tricky problem, since have a full-blown rendering
engine for the more complex languages (Indic, Semitic and East Asian
languages being the main ones that have substantial complexities.)
Given that, I was thinking that the most sensible thing might be to
pre-render strings (basically menu items and

Problem compiling libvorbis-1.0rc3 (fatal signal 11 with envelope.c)
Hi everyone. First, excuse me if this problem was discussed before but
seems that I can't search the list archive.
The problem is that when I try to compile libvorbis-1.0rc3, it fails
throwing:
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[2]: *** [envelope.lo] Error 1
It happens when trying to compile envelope.c as you can see. Anyway, I'm
