Locally "installed" Dll's
Some small utilities that I sometimes run are often distributed as a .ZIP file containing the application and any DLL's that it depends on. Windows has a behavior where if a DLL is located in the same directory as an application, windows preferentially chooses the DLL's in that directory over the same DLL that appears in C:\Windows\system32 Wine doesn't seem to behave this way (at

Wine sometime really surprise me
Software as Application, can always find a replacement. (Well most of the time) But Software as Games, there is good chance that you will never find a replacement. They are their own unique Art. (Classical games is another story, such as chess, and those "public domain") In order words, doesn't matter how old a game might be. it will not get obsolesce. When it come to

Age of Conan, Wine 1.3.23, Mac OS 10.6.7 ?
Age of Conan went free-to-play (sort of) recently, and I thought I'd give it a look. The AppDB entry and a search of bugs seems to indicate that it should mostly work except for some texture problems, but I can't seem to get past the installation. Configuration: * Mac OS X 10.6.7 * Wine 1.3.23 * Age of Conan web installer Process: * Created fresh WINEPREFIX by: "wine notepad"

Managing WINEPREFIXES
I have a couple of versions of wine installed, and most of the time I'm pretty good at remember which WINEPREFIX I used with which version of wine, but sometimes I get forgetful, and I end up screwing up a WINEPREFIX by accidentally running a higher version of wine in it, and it auto-updates and I have to recreate it. Is there some command or file I can use to determine the version of wine

How to get RawInput support in 1.3.18
I compiled the latest developmental release of wine. The changelog seems to indicate that there is now "official" support of RawDeviceInput through the XInput2. I've verified that when I configured my build, it found X11/extensions/XInput2.h, but programs that use RawDeviceInput for mouse movement still seems to require source patches to work. Did I do something wrong when

Mouse changes
I had a Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock installed and running under Wine 1.3.19 for my daughter. The mouse worked correctly. I upgraded to 1.3.20 and now the game loads and works properly, but when she tries to select a saved game, the mouse jumps around the screen uncontrollably when moved making it impossible to select the saved game. I tried setting MouseWarp to disabled, but it

Re: Mouse changes
Ok, as of 1.3.23, the I'm seeing behavior is as ertdfg22 described. If I set "MouseWarpOverride"="disable" then the mouse immediately gets stuck on the first screen in the lower left corner after a little jumping around. If I set "MouseWarpOverride"="enable", everything appears to work fine on the first screen, but when I select "Load a Saved

Segmentation Fault
What may cause this error? I'm trying to run Armored Brigade, which was working perfectly until I upgraded Wine from 1.2.3. to 1.3.24. I can't get sound to work in that game under that version of Wine. I have OSS V4 When I downgrade to 1.2.3. I can't run that game any more as I'm getting a segmentation fault error at start. I have tried uninstalling wine and removing the .wine

1.3.30 build error on Mac OS X with non-Apple GCC
There is a linker argument that only Apple's GCC recognizes in the latest build. In libs/wine/Makefile.in, there is a variable that reads: Code: DYLIB_LDFLAGS = -compatibility_version $(SOVERSION) -current_version $(VERSION) -headerpad_max_install_names in order for non-Apple GCC to successfully build, it needs to pass-through the argument to the linker. The line should read: Code:

Anyone able to play "A New Beginning" Game
Is anyone able to get the game "A New Beginning" working on Mac OS X (or Linux even)? http://www.daedalic.de/ANB/index.php/home-en.html It got a "gold" rating in the app db, but when I tried the demo, part way through the first few minutes, I got pages and pages of this error: Code: wine(66047,0x40806e00) malloc: *** mmap(size=262144) failed (error code=12) *** error:

Installation stuck on Building apple-gcc42
The tutorial for installing wine said there should be a constant flow of information in the terminal window while it's installing, though for me it appears to be stuck on "---> Building apple-gcc42" for the last 20 minutes. Is this normal? Why does the installation take so long / what is it doing / how difficult is it to reverse whatever it's doing?

Couple wine development questions
I'm not a developer but there are a few aspects of wine that I'm interested in. I've searched around, but can't really find answers to my questions. First of all, it appears that wine-dev's only use mailing lists as their primary means of communications. This forum is labeled "Wine Users", so probably the wrong place to ask, but there's no "Wine

Wine sourcing for noobs
Heres the deal; I want to install a patch. I need to do this by installing wine from source. I do not know how to do this. I have looked at the winewiki, and all over this forum. I have googled the bejesus out of it. I get that I have to unpack the wine source code and what not, all the code stuff just looks like stuff to put in terminal, but evidently that is not the case. Basically what i

Images Garbled
I've gotten the Wine 1.3.8 built on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 1.6.5 and Apple's X11 XQuartz 2.3.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple56) I managed to get most of the prerequisites built, and my final configure warning only contains the following: Code: configure: libv4l 32-bit development files not found. configure: libgphoto2 32-bit development files not found, digital cameras won't

Wine 1.3.33 and IE6
I use an application that uses IE6 to render HTML in a widget, and something changed recently such that the frame within the main window that usually renders the HTML is now completely white. I'm trying to track down the cause, and I noticed now that when I run wine iexplore, it runs the Gecko browser by default even though I have IE6 installed, and I have to explicitly specify the path to
