Jumbo frames problem with Realtek NICs?
I was trying to do some performance testing between using iSCSI on the host as a diskfile to a guest vs the VM guest using the iSCSI device directly. However, in the process of trying to establish a baseline performance figure, I started increasing the MTU settings on the PCI-express NICs with RTL8168B chips. First bottleneck was discovering the max MTU allowed on these is 7K instead of 9K but

Mapping usernames
Dear all I am trying to configure samba username map file in order to map the same user from a windows domain to 2 different unix users: Map to = map from bea = PRODUCTION\garcijo mpcadmin = PRODUCTION\garcijo but only works for the first map in the map file. When I try to use a share with permissions for mpcadmin unix user, I realize that smbd takes the first map (bea user) and

My research indicates that it is possible to run Excel 97 with standard wine using a real FAT Windows partition. So far, drawing heavily on http://www.winecentric.com/ I've been unable to get it to work. I'm running the 20020904 version, and have mutilated my wine config nearly beyond repair in an attempt to get excel to run. I've tried running all native dlls, all builtin, etc, and

[1.3.20]-Capture The Mouse Works Great. Suggestions... Hi, I've been crying for a long time about mouse issues while running a full screen game in an emulated desktop window, but with newest Wine these issues are gone. Would it be possible to have some hot key that the user can press to uncapture the mouse? For example, VirtualBox toggles mouse capture by pressing the right [Ctrl] key on

"Q. Isn't VP3 a patented technology? Yes, some portions of the VP3 codec are covered by patents. However, the Xiph.org Foundation has negotiated an irrevocable free license to the VP3 codec for any purpose imaginable on behalf of the public. It is legal to use VP3 in any way you see fit (unless, of course, you're doing something illegal with it in your particular jurisdiction). You are free to download VP3, use it free of charge, implement it in a for...

Possible critical Xen issue on Buster
Hey Xen devel team, I’ve never mailed a developer list before, but I’m worried I may have stumbled across a bad Xen/Debian packaging bug. My confidence is somewhere above “just mail -user” and below “open a bug in xen-system-amd64”. Apologies if this is the wrong usage of the list. I’ve updated to Buster, and my Xen kernel no longer boots. I believe it’s because Xen only offers versions 4.11 and

...NU GPL. (Note the distinction between filespec and implementation here.) Meanwhile, Theora.org's FAQ doesn't say anything about the state of the filespec, besides this: > Yes, some portions of the VP3 codec are covered by patents. However, the > Xiph.org Foundation has negotiated an irrevocable free license to the VP3 > codec for any purpose imaginable on behalf of the public. So my question is, is it alright to create and distribute a Theora codec which isn't based on the Theora code from Xiph.org? If VP3 code is in Theora, and VP3 is patented, does that mean that you can't w...

option 'auth users' in rsyncd.conf
Hi there, this is my first posting to this list, so let me quickly introduce myself. I'm Alex and currently working on a new version of the rsync package for the eisfair Linux distribution?. I have some problems understanding the behaviour of the 'auth users' option in the rsyncd.conf file when running rsync in daemon mode. I set up a module and a secrets file. This is the behaviour

Something odd is going on in this list
I read wine-users, as I read every list I can, through the Gmane interface, running Pan against news.gmane.org -- and recently hit a new gremlin. Supposing it something wrong with my connection or my Pan settings, I asked there. Here are the question and reply : [begin forward] On Fri, 26 Sep 2008 19:57:51 +0000, I Beartooth wrote: > Somebody please take a glance at

Windows doesn't prevent directory deletion
Hi Samba team, I'm currently building a Samba Domaincontroller with a seperate domain joined Samba Fileserver in my environment. On my fileserver share which root directory is /srv/Share I don't use Windows ACLs, so just the default Linux permissions and Posix ACLs Let's assume that I've a group employees which should have rwx permissions to a group specific share. So I've
