This is a new Centos 5.1 install on a HP nc2400 (that use to run XP). Completely clean install; blew away the XP partitions... Introduction
...y personal laptop I have the Red Hat Deployment Guide, as well as some more CentOS-specific docs. I have a list of 40 or so items that I will have to take care of in the following days or weeks, maybe months: "minimal install?", "yum?", "configure wireless rt2500, rt61, ipw3945?", "find extra repos for multimedia stuff?", etcetera. I just went to take a peek at IRC, and "Arrfab" told me the main communication channel for CentOS was this mailing list. Cheers from France, Niki Kovacs -- Dyslexics have more fnu.

System seams slower with Xenified kernel and xend dies with SIG 15
Hello all, I compiled the kernel with the xen patch and I seam to have trouble with some kernel modules, like ATI''s proprietary driver. The system seams considerably slower than before, this might be because of the video drivers, or maybe the RAM alocated to dom0 (512Mb instead of it''s usual 1Gb). When I try to run xend, it dies with a SIG 15. I attached the log file. Anyone

Configuring an Intel 3945 wireless card: partial success
...at home), and I'm quite happy with it. I had a partial success in configuring the wireless card. Basically I'm using [base], [updates], [extra] and [rpmforge] repos, configured with the yum-priorities plugin. Priority 10 for RPMForge, 1 for the others. From RPMForge, I installed dkms-ipw3945, the driver for my wireless card. I gave it a first go with the most basic setup, that is: static IP, no encryption. After installing the driver, the card shows up as eth1. I removed /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and edited a minimalistic ifcfg-eth1. After a restart, the interface...

Help with Dell Latitude, CentOS 5, and intel 3945abg wireless
I've visited several web pages, including Dell's, for help in getting the wireless card activated. lspci shows it, but iwconfig doesn't list it. I also visited linux.dell.com and downloaded and installed the 64-bit Fedora 7 RPMs, but couldn't get anywhere. dellwirelessctl also doesn't show up anywhere. I'm running a fully updated kernel/distro. What am I missing?

What ever happened to the dkms atheros drivers/
My OQO boxes have the AR5413 wifi chipset, so for the first time in quite a while, I again need to run madwifi. So I went looking for the dkms madwifi rpms, but could not find them. They use to be on rpmforge, as I recall. dkms is there. So have I lost some memory cells or have these rpms taken a hike?

CentOS on Dell Inspiron 640m laptop
I ordered and just received today a new Dell Inspiron 640m laptop (it also goes by the name E1405). Anyone tried installing CentOS on this laptop? It's the wireless drivers I'm most concerned about; it's got the Dell 1390 internal wireless card (not the Intel wireless). Anyone have some feedback, on the wireless or any other issues, on running CentOS on this laptop? Thanks Paul

Wireless Wiki ??
I went to the wiki and searched for both wireless and wifi and did not find anything related to wireless cards in CentOS. I think it would be stellar to have something similar to the laptops page but for wifi chipsets. I would propose it have three categories: FOSS chipsets Native driver but not FOSS chipsets (ie atheros via madwifi) NDIS Wrapper FSF has compiled somewhat of a list at
