I'm listening to FLAC on my ipod!
Just to let you guys know, I've been listening to FLAC (compression
level 2 or lower) tunes on my 3rd generation ipod running ipodlinux
(modified uCLinux) for the past few days. No skips or slow-downs
whatsoever using MPD to play music.
It's pretty cool to be able to use my iPod for the first time in 7
months. (I could've dual-booted the Apple firmware, but nearly all my
music is in FLAC). The UI is lacking (I did a very...

Newer iPods can now play Vorbis
Hullo, PP5020-based iPods can now play Vorbis in real-time, with iPodLinux!

I got this from Hydrogenaudio.

iTunes / quick time
Any idea if/when there will be official ogg support for iTunes or Quick Time for Mac ?
The dual G4s have this stupid thing where if we stick the quick time components on the Mac and it screws them up, or the Mac gets screwed later, then it nacks up the warranty or sumthin.
Basic point is we need official quicktime or iTunes support so we can play Vorbis on the Mac!!!
Anyone heard anything on

With a modified version of Music Player Daemon (MPD, www.musicpd.org).
http://www.ipodlinux.org/MPD has more info about it.

iPod
Having nothing to do with apple, some people have uClinux (Linux for
CPU's without MMUs) running on this. Right now, they are decoding
Oggs at .8x, with hope for improvement.

iRiver
Xiph.org is working with prototypes from iRiver to create a (new,
right?) portable music player which can play Ogg Vorbis.
Development is continuing at (xiph/hardware)"a breakneck speed".
The demo board is sitting on Monty's desk, and te...

libFLAC bitbuffer optimizations
Pulled from my Arch archive, this following patch seems to have made
quite a difference in getting my ARM7TDMI chip to play FLAC (compression
levels 0-2) on my ipod. I don't have benchmarks with hard numbers, but
playing with skips vs playing without skips is a fairly noticeable
difference.
memcpy and memset on uClibc are optimized in asm for the ARM7TDMI in
uClibc. Other hardware/libc
