LOG_AUTHPRIV and the default syslog.conf
Hello,
Some time ago I wrote PR conf/48170, which discussed
the following problem:
Syslog messages of facility LOG_AUTHPRIV and priority LOG_NOTICE
(or higher) are sent by default to the world-readable log file
/var/log/messages. That seems unacceptable since the facility
LOG_AUTHPRIV is for hiding sensitive log messages inside a protected
file, e.g., /var/log/auth.log.

problems with ipfilter on 5.1-RELEASE
...repeated 4 times.
i think i have everything configured properly
my kernel config looks like
options IPFILTER
options IPFILTER_LOG
options IPFILTER_DEFAULT_BLOCK
my /etc/rc.conf looks like
ipfilter_enable="YES"
ipfilter_flags=""
ipfilter_rules="/etc/ipfilter.rules"
ipmon_enable="YES"
ipmon_flags="-Dsvn"
the other problem i have is that: it now seems that ipmon is logging to
/var/log/messages. i've set up ipfilter successfully on many freebsd
4x boxes, but this is the first time i've tried to set it up on 5x.

what actually uses xdr_mem.c?
In regards to FreeBSD-SA-03:05.xdr, does anyone know which static binaries
or tools under /bin or /sbin actually use that problem code?
The recent XDR fixes the xdrmem_getlong_aligned(),
xdrmem_putlong_aligned(), xdrmem_getlong_unaligned(),
xdrmem_putlong_unaligned(), xdrmem_getbytes(), and/or xdrmem_putbytes()
functions, but it is difficult to know what uses these (going backwards
manually).

ZFS Locking Up periodically
I''ve recently re-installed an X4500 running Nevada b109 and have been
experiencing ZFS lock ups regularly (perhaps once every 2-3 days).
The machine is a backup server and receives hourly ZFS snapshots from
another thumper - as such, the amount of zfs activity tends to be
reasonably high. After about 48 - 72 hours, the file system seems to lock
