how to fix the level-1 variances in lme()?
Dear all, Edmond Ng (http://multilevel.ioe.ac.uk/softrev/reviewsplus.pdf) provides an example to fit the mixed effects meta-analysis in Splus 6.2. The syntax is: lme(fixed=d~wks, data=meta, random=~1|study, weights=varFixed(~Vofd), control=lmeControl(sigma=1)) where d is the effect size, study is the study number, Vofd is the variance o...

Manova for repeated measures
Hi everyone, I'm posting again, since I haven't got an answer (yet :( ). According to R help, manova does not support the inclusion of the Error() term in the formula call. I have repeated measures data for two dependent variables, so this means I can't account for subject variance in time?. Any lights? Thanks in advance, Rodrigo Abt, Department of Economic Studies, SII, Chile.

For example, using the data on Scottish secondary school students achievement scores (from http://multilevel.ioe.ac.uk/softrev/) we can fit a model with random effects for both the secondary and the primary school attended as > library(lme4) This package is in development. doubly multivariate analysis in R
20 subjects were measured in 5 conditions (thus repeated measures) and for each subject in each condition there are 4 response measures (thus multivariate as it is a combined score that needs to be compared across the conditions). So, using a multivariate approach to repeated measures this is a doubly multivariate analysis. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to do such a

Monte carlo help
Hello, I am currently doing my project and I need some help. I am trying to schedule tutors for a study room where students come in and out for helps. My goal is to schedule the tutors to maximally accomodate to the flow of students that need help with math so that each tutor is given an appropriate(also consecutive) hours of schedule. I am using monte carlo simulation for this, however I have

SPF screening implemented at shorewall.net
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Over the past weekend, I added SPF screening on the MTA at shorewall.net. SPF is a mechanism for a domain to use DNS to publish a list of those IP addresses that are used to send legitimate email from that domain. A receiving MTA can use that published information to determine if email from a domain is being sent through an MTA belonging to that

Printing Issues with NT type Clients.
Hi. To begin with, I have a freshly built RedHat Linux 8.0 box running samba 2.2.8a. The kernel version is 2.4.18-14. I downloaded and compiled samba from source. I am using LPRng-3.8.9-6 as my printing system. The attached printer is a Lexmark Z22 printer and it is attached to the parralel port. Problem: For the life of me, I can't get NT type clients, NT4, 2K and XP to print to samba.
