R (&stats) newcomer.... help!
Hi all,
I hope that i've posted this in the correct place. if not, please accept my
apologies (where should this go?)
I have carried out experimental removal of bivalves at 2 intertidal shores.
Bivalves were removed by raking of surface sediments. I wish compare the
biomass values of for a total of 8 species between the 2 shores
My 3 treatments are: Undisturbed Controls (Cont), Procedural Controls (Proc)
and Experimetnally Fished (Fished).
As Fished and Proc have both experien...

discriminant function analysis
My objective is to look at differences in two species of fish from morphometric measurements. My morphometric measurements are head length, eye diameter, snout length, and measurements from tail to each fin. I want to use discrimanant function analyis to determine if there are differences between the two species.
I am familiar with R but new to discrimannt function analysis. I want to learn

Urgent - I really need some help lme4 model avg Estimates
...l including these variables and wind speed reported a DAICc
score <2; therefore, we model- averaged the parameter estimates included in
these 2 best models (Table 3). Of the 5 habitats in which we observed
plovers feeding, effect size was highest at artificial tidal ponds (5.52),
followed by the intertidal zone (3.97). Positive effects of ephemeral pools
(2.65) and bay shores (2.32) on adult foraging rates were 48% and 42% lower
than artificial ponds,
respectively. Conversely, sand flats (-2.30) had an equal but opposite
effect on foraging rate, when compared to bay
shores. The results also indicat...

SE for combined data
Dear all
I have just had the question from a colleague. I know that it is not directly related to R (I will probably use R to do the analysis), but I hope someone can give us some insight:
Thanks,
AJ Smit
I sampled populations of a seaweed in the intertidal in order to estimate
the standing biomass of that seaweed at that site.
Due to clumped distribution patterns, I chose a stratified sampling system,
as follows. In each of three subjectively defined biomass classes (low,
medium and high biomass density), four quadrats (usually) were haphazardly

before-after control-impact analysis with R
...;-lme(density~year*oiled, random=~1|oiled/transect)
or
>harvest.lmer<-lmer(abund~H*BA+BA/year+BA/year:H+site:BA+(1|H/site))
but again no luck. I will get always some error messages or some
interactions missing.
Paper 2
(Keough & Quinn, 2000. Legislative vs. practical protection of an
intertidal shoreline in southeastern Australia. Ecol. Appl. 10: 871-881)
Data were collected from 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996,
1997). the 1989-1991 are the before impact years and the other 4 years
are the after the impact years. Eight sites were samples (2 protected
and 6 impacted). In thi...
