strange network problem
I can't figure this one out. There's a Belken USB->Ethernet adapter as eth2 on my server. After a reboot it doesn't communicate with anything ever though it's up: ipaddress is 68.15.6.136 gateway is 68.15.6.129 # ifconfig eth2 eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:05:1B:00:52:BF inet addr:68.15.6.136 Bcast:68.15.6.191 Mask:255.255.255.192 inet6

CentOS and SANs
Hello, I'm looking to build a CentOS server (or servers) with a SAN to support a large user base. Question: if you had a budget of $25K (or more if necessary), what you build? I'm interested mainly what hardware and software is best supported by the OS, but anything you have to say on the subject is welcome. Thanks, Jack

systemd and httpd
Hello, On my new CentOS 7 server httpd stops running after about two minutes or so. strace shows me the process is asking for a password, and failing to get one, times out. In reading the docs I see an option to systemd: --no-ask-password. Can anyone tell me where and how to set this? As a workaround, I added "KillMode=none" to httpd.service, but I'd rather use the option to

Proper unix ownership/Permissions for top level share
I am using zfs on linux to store my file shares on. When I create a new file system, they have the following permissions: [root at server ~]# zfs create tank/testsystem [root at server ~]# ls -Al /tank drwxrwxrwx+ 10 root root 27 Jun 2 20:10 Software drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2 Jun 3 07:43 testsystem At this point, if I use the rsat and attempt to set ACL, I get permission

centos-7.4 elfutils
Hello, I'm taking 7.4 for a spin.? I did the minimal install, and ran into trouble with groupinstall base.? The trouble seems to stem from elfutils.? One command claims elfutils-libs-0.166-2.el7.x86_64 is missing, and another one claims it's installed.? Not sure what's going on here. [root at ip-172-31-34-187 ~]# yum -y install elfutils.x86_64 Loaded plugins: fastestmirror

ESXi, CentOS 7 guest, CPU disabled
Hello, Over the last several weeks I've had a couple of CentOS 7 guests running in ESXi freeze because the CentOS halted the CPU. The problem is described here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2000542 My CentOS 6 VMs are not misbehaving at all, nor are the Ubuntu VMs. Anyone else seeing this bug or know what to do

cifs-utils with Samba 4.1.7 on Centos 6.5
I have built Samba 4.1.7 from source on a CentOS 6.5 machine. The install is a functional domain controller and file server, no issues I now need to mount a samba share from another machine, but cifs does not seem to be available. The cifs kernel module is available, but the helper mount.cifs is not. Normally I would just install cifs-utils, but the dependencies are: Dependencies Resolved

per port ip routing -- possible?
Hello, I have a customer who has two Internet connections, cable and DSL, where the cable is much faster than the DSL connection. Is it possible in CentOS 4.2 to use the "ip route" command to direct certain outbound traffic over the faster connection, say http(s) requests? Web searches turn up solutions where NAT is involved, but this guy isn't using NAT. Example configs

GDM problem
Here's another data point regarding the GDM problem I'm having. Once again, I get this on the console: There was an error loading the theme Default Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/usr/share/gdm/themes/Default/background.png' Yesterday I needed to edit some graphics I had done for a job. I use gimp. Now gimp tells me: Image type 'png' is not
