Xeon CPU and ATLAS
I am about to get a new machine at work - an IBM Intellistation with the Xeon 2.8 GB processor. It will run Windows 2000. I would like to install the proper ATLAS dll for this machine, but I am not sure if Xeon is P4? Does anybody have any experience with Xeon? Thanks in advance, Andy __________________________________ Andy Jaworski 518-1-01 Process Labora...

strange slowness of plot
...comes totally unresponsive. Typical ctr-alt-del does nothing. Even pushing the power button does nothing. I originally attempted the lty=2 plot with several hundred thousand observations. The only way I could get my machine back was to disconnect the power cord! My system is as follows: (1) IBM Intellistation with PIII 1GHz, 512Mb of RDRAM, 20Gb SCSI160 drive, 64Mb FireGL graphics card (2) Windows 2000 Pro (3) R-1.3.0 (original version) Andy __________________________________ Andy Jaworski Engineering Systems Technology Center 3M Center, 518-1-01 St. Paul, MN 55144-1000 ----- E-mail: apjaworski at mmm...

slowness of plot(x, type='l')
...ed, so I cannot do side-by-side comparisons. Secondly, I noticed that the behavior of plot(*, type='l') differs. Before R-2.1, the plotted lines would appear on the plot gradually. Now, after the wait, the whole plot appears at once. Here are my timing results. I am on Windows2000, IBM Intellistation with Xenon 2.8MHz with 1Gb of memory. I checked May-06 versions of R-patched and R-devel built from sources. I ran the following simple test: x <- rnorm(n) date(); plot(x, type='l'); date() Here are the timings: n seconds 5000 1 6000 2 7000 4 800...

[Fwd: Re: [RFC][PATCH] allow dom0 to power off machine using ACPI on shutdown.]
Ewan, Keir seems to think this patch is OK. I tested it on an Intellistation A Pro for x86_64 and it works for me. I think it is low risk because it''s executed at the end of the shutdown process. Please apply. http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2006-04/msg00223.html _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-deve...

Compilation problem
...on being a little off the main thrust of this list. I am not sure what the problem is and this seems like the most logical place to ask. Here is my problem. I have been compiling daily snapshots of R (both patched and devel) for some time now on my work machine. This machine is a 3-year old IBM Intellistation with 1Gbyte of memory running Windows 2000 Pro. My setup for compiling is fairly standard: cygwin environment, R tools, MinGW development system (recently switched to the Rtools package), MiKTeX, current Tcl/Tk, ActivePerl, libpng and Jpeg libraries and the most recent Inno Setup. I have no prob...

Smp kernel on up machine???
Can anyone tell me if there has been testing of using an SMP kernel on a UP machine and if that is bad? I have an ext3 filesystem that keeps getting corrupt. Certain directories only get I/O errors, trying to access beyond the end of the device. Thanks, Gabe

building R 2.4.0 on aix
I'm trying to build R 2.4.0 on aix 5 and not having much luck. If anyone on the list has built 2.3 or 2.4 on AIX and would be willing pass along some hints, I would be grateful. So would the research group that's waiting to use R. Thanks, Roy Heimbach -- Roy Heimbach <royh at hpc.unm.edu> / 505-277-8348 User Services / Center for High Performance Computing University of New
