Is Wine taking my donations and giving them to CrossOver?
Well I must say.
I certainly feel like a fool now.
I have been contributing to Wine for about five months, and was shocked to see a blatant advertisement for CrossOver, who take the hard work of those who have contributed their intellect for free and sell it for profit, on your home page.
I then discovered through your own FAQ that most Wine developers are employed by CrossOver.
Is this legal?
To claim you are an open source project and take money from those contributing in good faith, and give it to a private for profit company...

sslcertificates module for debian and darwin
Hey all,
i have attached a module which installs SSL-Root-certificates in Debian
and Darwin.
One thing is left to do for darwin: check whether the certificate is
installed already. Until I have figured out how to do this, The test is
rather simple.
There is a class called dfncertificates defined in this module which
gives you a hint how the module is used.
Have fun, comments are welcome.

Machine accounts, Samba 3, NT Domain migration
...echo $str | cut -f1 -d$`
smbpasswd -a -m -n $compname
I must be doing something unnecessary here for the migrated machine accounts not to work. Can someone throw some light on this? I am sorry if this has already been answered. It must have, but I couldnt find it using any searches that my limited intellect could come up with on the list archives. Appreciate your time.

DVDFAB and WINE
HI. I tried out DVDFAB 8 using wine and it worked great. So good i bought it for $86 and change.
Problem is. When i go to register it it will not work. Since then i have searched their forum and find out it will not work with WINE when you register. Some kind of copy protection.
No help on their forum. Best i have seen is to use Virturalbox. BUT i do not happen to have a unregistered Windows OS

way to assign undef to a regular variable (as opposed to a resource

It would be a very useful thing to be able to do; makes for much cleaner
code. Have I missed something?

Yup. Indeed, I am trying to use a "binary" approach to minimize work, but am
not using git bisect, but hope to augment augment cutting the solution tree in
half by reading the commit comments and letting my intellect suggest which ones
look like more or less likely candidates...

I have indeed already done so (not based on git bisect, but a commit id).

Modules, modules, everywhere
Hello folks,
At Stanford, we use modules to define every possible service, package,
feature in the traditional sense (apache, ntp, iptables, etc). Then, for
clients (such as other departments) and "services" (such as our mailman
infrastructure, our ldap infrastructure, etc), we use manifests in
/master/manifests and distributable files in /dist/ and templates in
/master/templates.

A number of years back I thought to myself that computers and software
would soon become so complicated that they would outgrow the intellect
of their masters, and as a result software would start falling to
pieces.
If one looks at the low level of software quality these days, it is my
view that this has already started to happen.

by greedy masters trying to outwit...

Redundancy in samba
Hi.
I'm new to samba, so I don't know many things. I have a big
infrastructure based on kerberos, ldap and afs. All our linux clients
log nicely on the cell, no problem. The problem is as everywhere...
windows. I'm trying to make windows log on the cell, using samba (I will
try tomorrow to set up a domain). The questions about samba will come
later on, so expect me to bother you :)

IP to NetBIOS resolution
Hello,
Is there *any* way to reliablily determine the NetBIOS name of a computer
when you only know their IP address? I know it is very easy to find the IP
address from the NetBIOS name, but I can't seem to find any way of getting a
NetBIOS name from an IP..

ftp shaping and excluding ls packets
Hi,
I am currently using a script to shape my outbound ftp traffic. Works
great except for 1 thing. When a user goes to list a dir, the listing
is also getting shaped. This causes dir listings to be very slow.
Is there a way to differentiate the dir listing packets?
Here is a my current script:

Limit access to dovecot by domains?
Hi.
Is there any way to limit access to dovecot by domains.
I only need to give access to a well known set of domains, all from
Australia and all networks are known and used either from people
at home or mobile access (phones, laptops etc).
iptables is not possible as e.g. OPTUS does not give away all of the
networks mobile phones are connected to. I know some, but not all.
It would be much
