tweaking minimum word length?
Hi, Can Ferret be configured to change the minimum word length of what it indexes? Right now it seems to drop words 3 characters or less, but I''d like to include words going down to 2 characters. How would I do that? Francis

Why did Intel change his static branch prediction mechanism during these years?
...lways-not-take * Pentium4 age: Backwards Taken/Forwards Not-Taken * PM, Core2: Didn't use static prediction, randomly depending on what happens to be in corresponding BTB entry , according to agner's optimization guide ¹. * Newer CPUs like Ivy Bridge, Haswell have become increasingly intangible, according to Matt G's experiment ². And Intel seems don't want to talk about it any more, because the latest material I found within Intel Document was written about ten years ago. I know static branch prediction is (far?) less important than dynamic, but in quite a few situations, C...

The best advice I can give you regarding computer systems is to stress the economic benefits of a system and don't forget to include intangibles like uptime and reliability. How much does it cost when a system shuts down. How much is your company's yearly expenditures in licensing/support? What benefit does your company derive from it. Being hit across the head by the bottom line inspires more change than some of the best tech...

Switching to 16 bit colour ...
"bit of trouble" - good pun! But I do hope it gets solved. Can you make a bash file (oh no - a pun of my own!) to automate any of those annoyances? Would putting the game "in its own WINE" help at all? Community: How to deal with attempts at sabotage
Hi all, The underlying assumption of membership in any community is that your participation is at worst neutral, and if possible positive. Communities, online or off, generally do what they can to protect themselves from detrimental influences, which is where policies, politeness, moderators, and all that come into play. Puppet''s community has been both fortunate and awesome,

Protocol for answering basic questions
I have been following the discussions on 'Reasons not to answer very basic questions in a straightforward way' with interest as someone who is also new to R and has had similar experiences. As such it with sadness that I note that most seem to agree with the present approach to the responses to basic questions. I must thank those respondants to my own questions who have been helpful, but
