AIX Testers Needed.
Hello AIX folks, I am changing the packaging of Samba for AIX. Presently Samba is built with a truckload of static libs and bound up in a package that has no other support for the supporting infrastructure. What I'd like to do instead is make as much of the package dependant upon shared libs and to allow for completeness of the package. In other words, BDB, OpenSSL, OpenLDAP, SASL, KRB5,

OpenSSH 3.6.1p1 AIX installp/bff packages available.
Hi All. New AIX packages of OpenSSH 3.6.1p1 are available for download at [1]. There are two tarballs, one for the as-distributed code and one with the password expiration patch. Each tarball contains binaries for AIX 4.x and AIX 5.x. The usual caveats apply (see page). These packages have been more popular than I ever thought they'd be. They are about to clock up the one thousandth

Can you, please, share exactly your setup - AIX version and well as how exactly you installed the compilers (=where from)? I can then try to replicate it. Installping puppet with kickstart -- Cannot find local fact /proc/cpuinfo
Hi I have been trying to get puppet working with kickstart. I am trying to install Hadoop on the nodes. Installing puppet from kickstart work and when the machine restarts, certificates are pulled down and hadoop user is created and files are extracted. I want all the user creation etc to be done before the machine reboots so that I can set up init.d scripts to do a start of hadoop . So I

Help with SWAT
Hello all, I just installed 3.0.24 in AIX5.3 using installp binaries. The install went well, and I can connect to shared directories from Windows. When I try to log in to the SWAT tool, it does not accept the password of any userid that I try with, including root. I don't recall having to do anything special to use SWAT on my older servers running SAMBA 2.2.8. I have added the following

Is this the best place to ask puppet on AIX questions?
Hello. First post. I have been messing around with puppet on AIX a bit recently and have all kinds of questions about how puppet integrates with AIX, specifically regarding how the "service" and "package" resources work with AIX''s native commands (installp/lssrc/etc). Some searches of this group didn''t yield much info on AIX. Is there a better forum out

Support for AIX native (.bff) packages: patch available
Hello All, I've written basic support for creating AIX native packages (ie installp/SMIT installable .bff's) that lives in contrib/aix. It is based on Ben Lindstrom's Solaris buildpkg.sh. It requires no special tools and all code was either written by me or derived from the openssh distribution itself. It is made available under the same terms as buildpkg.sh (ie public domain).

OpenSSH-3.1p1 AIX packaging bug [patch]
Hello, The change in release number broke some some assumptions in buildbff.sh: * SSH_VERSION was always on the last line of version.h * The OpenSSH version number would give a valid installp version (which must have four parts). Thanks to Mandar Mirashi for pointing this out. Anyone affected can try the following patch which works for me and hopefully will behave sanely in future. -Daz.

OpenSSH AIX native packages available
Hello All, Since (a) I've offered them to people and (b) the previous source of AIX OpenSSH packages (freeware.bull.net) seems to be offline I've put my AIX bff (SMIT/installp installable) packages up for download. Packages for 3.1p1 and 3.2.2p1 are currently available. If you want AIX packages I recommend you build them yourself with contrib/aix/buildbff.sh, however if you can't

OpenSSH 3.5p1 AIX packages available.
Hi All. AIX native installp/SMIT installable packages of openssh-3.5p1 are now available. There are 2 packages: openssh-3.5p1-1 which contains the PermitRootLogin patch and openssh-3.5p1-1x which also contains the (experimental) password expiration patch. I'm still interested in feedback on the password expiration patch, so if you choose to download the package with it, please let me know

ftp://ftp.hvcc.edu/pub/pware/aix52/ The ftp site above contains IBM installp format packages that install into /opt/pware so it doesn't interfere with existing /usr/local installations. A few packages (BDB, MySQL, Apache and Samba) can have several versions installed concurrently, others are replaced on upgrade. Some packages of interest include GCC 4.1.1, Apache 2.0.59 with PHP 5.2.0
