CUPS support for Canon i255 Inkjet Printer?
Hi all I tried installing a remote WINXP SMB shared Canon i255 Inkjet printer on the CUPS printer queue, but could not find the model number in the supported printers list. How do I print on this printer? With regards. Sanjay.

Strange problem with HP DeskJet 980cxi and HP Color InkJet CP1700
...inters are connected via JetDirect-boxes to the network. Printers like the HP LaserJet 4100 work fine with the Microsoft and the HP drivers. A double click on the printer icon in the network neighbourhood downloads the driver and the printer is accessible. For the HP DeskJet 980 cxi and HP Color Inkjet CP1700 we only have the original HP drivers. After downloading them from the server the printer is not accessible. If I try to view the properties dialog of the printer I receive an access-violation (0xc0000005) from Explorer.exe and I'm unable to print :-< The only printer driver I got the...

HP vs. Brother Printers: Use with Centos/Fedora
...serJet 4050, which was purchased 18 years ago, > was getting really tough beating being used in the Department I support, > and still works. HP *used* to make very good laser printers. *Maybe* they still do, at their higher end, but they are just very expensive. For the most part HP's *inkjet* printers are junk. Inkjet technology is a technology that seems to never really delivered on the promise of low-cost, but good quality. They seem to be cheaply made and can be terribly expensive in terms of consumables -- but in a nickle and dime way -- eg a $20 cartridge only prints 100-200 pages...

Printer recommendations
...at the people on this list are using for printers that are currently available, since we are using versions of CUPS and foomatic that are frozen, and any other issues or "gotchas" that you are aware of. For the replacement printer, I'm considering a color laser printer instead of the inkjets that I've been using, and I'm dithering back and forth over the question of direct-connect or networked printer. Suggestions, warnings, and horror stories are welcome. Thanks in advance. -- Ron Loftin reloftin at twcny.rr.com "God, root, what is difference ?&q...

margins with postscript device
I've been having a problem when printing plots to a HP DeskJet 2500C printer. This printer, like most inkjet printers, has a large minimum bottom margin. For most HP inkjet printers, the bottom 1/2" (left 1/2" inch for landscape) of the page can't be printed too. The postscript device in R has a default of 1/4" margins between the paper edge and the plotting area. This means that bot...

HP vs. Brother Printers: Use with Centos/Fedora
...s quilts and says the same thing about Brother sewing > machines. > I can't speak to the sewing machines, but I have to say that I've had very good luck with Brother printers. ?However, we have to be honest and acknowledge that I'm talking about LASER printers, not the $%^&* inkjet silliness. In my DEFINITELY not-so-humble opinion, the "run away as fast as you can" advice applies to ALL inkjets that are intended for home use. The only real differences I'm aware of between Brother and HP LASER printers are price, and the fact that the HP drivers are usually inc...

getting rid of hp c3180
I have a hp photosmart C3180 all-in-one and am well and truly sick of it. It seems like every time I go on another printing binge, I need yet another print cartridge. hp-clean doesn't help. IIRC this use it or lose it "feature" is common to inkjets. What should I replace it with? If I want a non-cloggging printer, is laser jet the way I need to go? I'd like to do color occasionally, but might not want to pay the price for a color laser. -- Michael hennebry at web.cs.ndsu.NoDak.edu "Sorry but your password must contain an upperc...

Wine & Cups printing
I have a strange problem with Wine (20010824) and Cups (1.1.10). I have removed LPRng and it's various parts from my RH 7.1/KDE-2.2.1 system and installed Cups. I've set up all of my printers under Cups (two Laserjets, both PS and two inkjet, not PS) and they all work great with my linux apps and even with Corel WPO2K for Linux, but under Wine I can't get the two inkjets to work. The printers show up in the print dialog and when I click on OK to print the job, it seems to work, but all i get out of the inkjet printers is a Post...

Sharing a USB Printer
We're trying to share an Epson USB inkjet printer via Samba 3.0.2-7 on our new Fedora server. The share is set up OK, and can be seen and opened from Windows clients. However, although the Fedora box can print to the Epson, the Windows boxes can't. All other Samba shares, including a laser printer connected to the parallel port, wor...

I have a few different problems with samba 2.2.5 PLEASE HELP
...he short name for all other services and we have other boxes running samba 2.2.2 on Tru64 UNIX and the short names work just fine to connect to them, and I largely copied the configuration I am using off of the primary server. 2) The purpose of this machine is to be a print server for an HP Color Inkjet CP1700. This is a fully supported printer and I have it setup correctly on Linux. I am using LPRng as my printing system and can even print from my Windows Clients when I use locally supplied drivers. However since this is supposed to be a easy to use, public printer I do not want the users havi...

Need tip on an inexpensive printer for college student using CentOS 5.5
Sending my son back to college with a dual-boot laptop with Win 7 and CentOS 5.5. He uses Win7 to manage his iPod and SW that sometimes issued by a professor for a specific course...otherwise he uses CentOS for everything else. That setup worked well last year, except for printing. He has a low-end Cannon printer that is not supported in the Linux realm. Most of his coursework was uploaded to

Problems with Intel Netport Printserver and Samba
Running RH6.0 I am able to print just fine from linux, the problem now is getting smb printing working. I am using an Intel Netport Express PRO/100 printserver. Previous to my upgrade from RH5.2 when I had the printer directly connected to the samba server, I was able to print just fine from the windows client machines (not using the raw method) My /etc/printcap is as follows ##PRINTTOOL3##
