E911 Testing !
...sue if one does an asterisk installation in
an office. How do you test 911? Won't they arrest you or something for
dialing 911 for no reason and talking to one of their agents who could have
taken a more important call?
On the other hand what an emergency comes up (like someone got seriously
injured) and on top of that asterisk crashed all of a sudden bringing the
whole office PBX down. Since it would be not be possible to place a call and
emergency matter becomes more serious, who would be held responsible? The
person who installed the PBX for not implementing a redundant and reliable
system?...

Predicting complicated GAMMs on response scale
...MMs to show a relationship of temperature differential over
time with a model that looks like this:-
gamm(Diff~s(DaysPT)+AirToC,method="REML")
where DaysPT is time in days since injury and Diff is repeat measures of
temperature differentials with regards to injury sites compared to
non-injured sites in individuals over the course of 0-24 days. I use the
following code to plot this model on the response scale with 95% CIs which
works fine:-
g.m<-gamm(Diff~s(DaysPT)+AirToC,method="REML")
p.d<-data.frame(DaysPT=seq(min(DaysPT),max(DaysPT)))
p.d$AirToC<-(6.7)

linux bridging problem: how to emulate 2 separate interfaces on a single one?
Hi all.
I would need to use a single physical interface on a Linux box to manage
two different IP addresses (belonging to two separate logical subnets)
with two different MAC address. (I need to emulate te presence of two
separate physical interfaceses for a PC on the same LAN, at layer 2 and
layer 3).
Is it possible to use the linux ethernet bridging code and two tap
interfaces for this

Good Morning all,
Have started seeing this over the last few days on a couple of hosts.
Does anyone have any familiarity with this, and or how I can debug what
mount/filesystem/inode is having the issues?

Time moved backwards errors
Hello,
I am experiencing a number of 'Time moved backwards errors' such as:

RECALL: Lithium batteries for Polycom Soundstation 2W
Just released by the CPSC on their recalls mailing list; please
forward to any venues where you feel operators or resellers of the
SoundStation might be, with this preface included.
My 2W had a battery with the part code 1520-07804-002; its date code
was GP0806, and therefore predates the recall period.
Cheers,

Selinux extra packages and compiled apps
Hey,
I am in the process of trying (and convincing my colleagues) to learn/setup
selinux as we switch to 6.0...
Quick question: do I really "need" to install the setools/setroubleshoot
packages or can I live without them?? They want to install 80 packages
(gnome stuff, gstreamer, gtk, tcl/tk...) and I would like to avoid installing
all sort of graphical tools/libs on my lean

This is obviously not a long term acceptable solution. Could someone
please enlighten me as to the permanent solution, or at least see why it
doesn't work? This is not my problem, therefore I have not had the
opportuntity to test - I don't have a version that old. Let me know if it
is solved in a newer version as well. Thanks.
It is a workable solution, although the generally accepted

So in order to answer the background and backbone questions here is

post it in response to a few inquiries.
The current system is quite interesting.
We have an office in a town that is about 50 miles from
