Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'N' not found
I'm running an LSODA to generate some graphs, but I need to stop at a certain point and use those values to generate another LSODA output. This is working fine, but when I try to run the second LSODA, I get the "Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'N' not found". Any ideas what can be causing this? I have no object 'N' anywhere in the script. I made an

Fish and 'must read' statistics books. My last word, promise!
I seem to have unwittingly stirred up a hornets' nest here, so let me have one more say and leave it. Firstly, congratulations to Renaud Launcelot, who seems to have a better feel for wryness and irony in English than some of my native speaker colleagues. Of course R A Fisher is a seminal writer, indeed close to the founder of modern statistics and every aspiring statistician should read

Time to add exponential backoff for SSH interactive login failures?
I'm accustomed to systems where even the first failed login attempt incurs a 5 second delay. I don't think that's too harsh, but everyone has their own needs and considerations. This could be made configurable. -Jay -----Original Message----- From: Rick Jones [mailto:rick.jones2 at hp.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 8:09 PM To: Jay Libove Cc: openssh-unix-dev at

system vs shell wait command
Dear All, I try to invoke a second program (called "gencont") within a R script. However this second program needs some time to finish. After finishing the output should be read into R and used for further calculation. Under windows, it perfectly works: result<-shell("gencont < yn.txt",intern=TRUE,wait=TRUE) # R waits untill the program finishes (apporx 3 min) and

sweep() and recycling
Hi I had a hard-to-find bug in some of my code the other day, which I eventually traced to my misusing of sweep(). I would expect sweep() to give me a warning if the elements don't recycle nicely, but X <- matrix(1:36,6,6) sweep(X,1,1:5,"+") [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [,6] [1,] 2 9 16 23 30 32 [2,] 4 11 18 25 27 34 [3,] 6 13 20 22
