Use of geometric mean for geochemical concentrations
Dear Rich,
It depends how the data is generated.
Although I am not an expert in ecology, I can explain it based on a biomedical example.
Certain variables are generated geometrically (exponentially), e.g. MIC or Titer.
MIC = Minimum Inhibitory Concentration for bacterial resistance
Titer = dilution which still has an effect, e.g. serially diluting blood samples;
Obviously, diluting the samples will generate the following concentrations:
1, 1/2, 1.4, 1/8, 1/16, ...
(or the reciprocal: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ...)
It makes no sense to compute th...

Probit analysis
Respected Sir/Madam,
I have a question regarding calculation of LD50 (Lethal Dose) and IC50 (50%
inhibitory concentration) of an antimicrobial experiment.
I have used a compound isolated from a plant and observed its effect on the
fungus *Fusarium oxysporum* by the food poisoning method. Solutions of the
compound at concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250µg/ ml were added
to sterilized medium i...

Simulation - Natrual Selection
...look at what
happens.
But what I really wanted to know from this email, was if there's a
package or function for natrual selection simulation I could make use
of, to see if I can simulate the experiment. I want to start with a
distribution of concentration tolerance values, taken from the
inhibitory concentration values from my first lot of microbes, back when
term began. Draw 3000 from this. Then values in that draw that fall
below the exposure concentration I did in my experiment, are removed, or
have a high chance of being removed. Then, from what is left, a draw is
made again - or perh...
