Asterisk to CCM4 SIP Trunk one-way audio problem.

Legacy Toshiba integration
I have recently changed jobs and I now have to administer a Toshiba DK424. I would like to integrate Asterisk with this Toshiba PBX. I am quite familiar with Asterisk but I have absolutely no idea about this Toshiba. To make matters worse the manuals for this system are missing. Digium S101i - Adapter DTMF works perfeclty
...in, usually the orange light stays "ON" (even though there is no conversation) or there is no light at all. When I enable in provisioning only "server" option the unit works perfectly even over the Internet (it has be up for over a week): S101i <--> Firewall <--> Inernet <--> Firewall <--> Asterisk Server 2.) usb to usb comm ports - possible? how?
I have an i686 mono core system configured as a CentOS-5.2 server. It has one DB9P RS-232 serial connector and six USB connectors. The DB9p is configuered as STTY0 for the attached MultiTec MT5638ZBA fax modem. I would very much like to connect my MS WindowsXPpro laptop, which only has USB connectors, to this server via telnet or ssh over a direct connection. Is there a way to connect /
