Factors? I think?
First of all, let me apologize, as this is probably an absurdly basic question. I did search before asking, but perhaps my ineptitude didn't allow me to apply what I read to what I'm doing. Totally new to R, and haven't done any code in any language in a long time. Basically I've got categories. They're department codes for doctors (say, 9999 for radiology or 5555 for endocrinology), which of course means th...

Issue with read.csv treatment of numerics enclosed in quotes (and a confession)
Dear Help-Rs,   I've been dealing with this problem for some time, using a work-around to deal with it. It's time for me to come clean with my ineptitude and seek a what has got to be a more streamlined solution from the Help-Rverse.   I regularly import delimited text data that contains numerics enclosed in quotes (e.g., "00765288071").  Thing is, for some of these data, I need to keep the values as "character" class within the...

Assigning has_many child in parent creation question
If I have... class Parent has_many :children end class Child belongs_to :parent end ...then... * Assigning a _new_ child during parent''s creation saves the child record with the parent''s id. child = Child.new Parent.create(:children => [child]) # Results in child being associated with parent * Assigning an existing child after a parent''s creation

...ular reference checking that happens already (does it only just check for back reference as I remember seeing vs. keeping track of previously output object_ids? I had to do the latter to avoid them in a previous version of restful_json when I was mutilating as_json)? dare to compare -- live streams: ogg/WMA
...omething like this? Me, with cheap computers which were had no more value (well, they can't run Windows XP) could be used to do streaming and reliable streaming. This is only possible because of the open source work ... which shows that when creative thought is not stamped out by bureaucratic ineptitude or/and corruption, it can achieve the "impossible". I do feel that Radio France, since it is a public service, does have the duty not to waste money. This was also a point of my "comparision". boink. dare to compare -- live streams: ogg/WMA
hello all! After having read http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/listen.html and listened to the examples on that very educational page, I decided to augment the info. This example is more simple, it involves the comparision between two streams of the same radio station, FranceInter (a station of Radio France in Paris). The ogg stream is running at around 30 kbps/11 kHz in stereo. The WMA stream
