remove extreme values or winsorize – loop - dataframe
...ind1year2000<-subset(industry1,industry1$year==2000) q1<-quantile(ind1year2000$X1,probs=0.1,na.rm=TRUE) q99<-quantile(ind1year2000$X1,probs=0.90,na.rm=TRUE) ind1year2000winsorized<-transform(ind1year2000,X2=ifelse(X1<q1,q1,ifelse(X1>q99,q99,X1))) I repeat this for all years and industries, and then I merge/bind all again to have a new dataframe with all the columns of the dataframe ?data? plus X2. Could anyone help me doing this in a easier way? Thanks Cec?lia Carmo Universidade de Aveiro - Portugal

linear model coefficients by year and industry, fitted values, residuals, panel data
Hi R-helpers, My real data is a panel (unbalanced and with gaps in years) of thousands of firms, by year and industry, and with financial information (variables X, Y, Z, for example), the number of firms by year and industry is not always equal, the number of years by industry is not always equal. #reproducible example firm1<-sort(rep(1:10,5),decreasing=F) year1<-rep(2000:2004,10)

question about the degrees of freedom‏
Thank you for your advice, ill try to be more explicit now, i wasnt in the first mail because i thought it is a simple question to answer, so; i have a panel data which contains 48858 observations during 3 year therefore, there are 146574 observations in total, i have 22 different industries defined by 2-digit codes such as 11, 13,14,16...40 therefore, ind_2d contains 22 2-digit codes for example; i want to do a by-industry analysis and this requires to estimate the same model for all 22 industry! as i said total number of observations are 48858(each year), but the 11th industry h...

creating dummy with loop command
Dear R users, I have a simple question (probably) but i couldnt how to find a solution for that. i am using 2 digit industry codes and 3 digit industry codes for my model, and i need to create dummies for the industries. The case is simple for the 2-digit industries since there are not that mcuh of them, so i am creating my dummies as following ind_2da<-(ind_2d==11)#for the 11th industry ind_2dc<-(ind_2d==12)#for the 12th industry and so on so forth ... then i directly put the dummy into the regression whi...

creating dummy with loop command‏
Hi Dimitri, Thanks for help, i knew that way that you have suggested but in fact my case is a little bit complicated than this, therefore, i am writing a better explanation now, my model is trying to see the effect of eco-innovative industries on total output, thats why i am trying to estimate by-industry regression: the model is lnQ~lnC+lnM+lnL+lnE+eco_inno+inno+(sum)ind_3d capital, material expendtrs, #labor, energy expendtrs, eco-innovation expenditures and innovation expenditures and i have in my disposal the 3-digit industry codes...

question about the degrees of freedom
...‘.’ 0.1 ‘ ’ 1 Residual standard error: 0.2924 on 146159 degrees of freedom (407 observations deleted due to missingness) Multiple R-squared: 0.9709, Adjusted R-squared: 0.9709 F-statistic: 6.957e+05 on 7 and 146159 DF, p-value: < 2.2e-16 but as we can see it again counted in all the industries! so the DF is 146159!!! So i just wonder, where do i made mistake, or there is no mistake at all, and i just misunderstood the DF issue? Any answer would be appreciated thanks in advance _________________________________________________________________ [[alternative HTML...

Referencing variable names rather than column numbers
I apologize for how basic a question this is. I am a Stata user who has begun using R, and the syntax differences still trip me up. The most basic questions, involving as they do general terms, can be the hardest to find solutions for through search. Assume for the moment that I have a dataset that contains seven variables: Pollution, Temp, Industry, Population, Wind, Rain and Wet.days. (This

Hierarchical factors
Hello, Hierarchical factors are a very common data structure. For instance, one might have municipalities within states within countries within continents. Other examples include occupational codes, biological species, software types (R within statistical software within analytical software), etc. Such data structures commonly use hierarchical coding systems. For example, the 2007 North
