Status of fragment support, advantages of having fewer indoes
Hi,
There wasn't much information regarding fragment support of ext2/3 since 2003
[1], Andreas stating that there were problems with the xattr implementation. Has
this changed in the meanwhile?
My second question is regarding the bytes-per-inode ratio: What benefits would I
gain from having fewer inodes? I reckon it's only diskspace (if so, how much?).
best regards,
Michael Renner

help: exponential fit?
Hi there,
I'm quite new to R (and statistics),
and I like it (both)!
But I'm a bit lost in all these packages,
so could someone please give me a hint
whether there exists a package for fitting
exponential curves (of the type
t --> \sum_i a_i \exp( - b_i t))
on a noisy signal?
In fact monoexponential decay + polynomial growth
is what I'd like to try.
Thanks in advance,

dovecot fts_lucene indexes not being updated
Hi everyone,
I have a dovecot 2.1.6 setup with fts_lucene.
The lucene indexes get created/updated fine when I do a manual search thru
telnet.
However, if I run a webapp that uses the php::imap_search function, the
index never gets created/updated. I run indo the same problem with
thunderbird and full-body search.
Anyone has some insight into this?
Regards,
-Joe

Querying sqlite through RODBC causes R to crash
Dear R-SIG-Debian,
while trying to query data from an SQLite database through RODBC on
Debian testing, R crashes with the following message:

con3 <- odbcConnect("test3")
# 'test3' being an ODBC datasource configured with SQLite3 driver,
# but the same happens with SQLite driver
sqlQuery(con3, "select * from test") # 'test' being any table

What made me write this acclaim is the number of postings I've seen
about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going
wrong, ACL problems and more.

which multivariate regression?
Hi R-Users,
I have a student doing work with lionfish and she has been trying to analyse
a multivariate dataset to see what variables/factors are influencing the
behaviour of lionfish. We have attempted a number of analyses, including
rpart, relimpo and standard linear regression but we are not having much
luck with quality output. The data is very non-normal and we would
appreciate some advice

inode iblocks count changes by -8
Hi all!
Several times now I have seen the following: fsck-ing the ext3 fs I get
hundreds (if not thousands) of messages:
Indoe NNNN, i_blocks is K, should be (K-8). FIXED:
Interestingly the difference is *always* *always* *always* 8. Can
someone explain me what was going on? Why this?
Thanks a lot and all the best

mysterious rebounce in htb
Attached is a graph obtained with ethereal where after time +/-45s there is
a rebounce which I can''t explain.
Setup is this:
- my machine starts to generate traffic at maximum speed against a
target machine (using nc < /dev/zero here and nc -l > /dev/null there)
- traffic pattern is:

Very slow directory listing and high CPU usage on replicated volume
Hi all,
I am having problems with painfully slow directory listings on a freshly
created replicated volume. The configuration is as follows: 2 nodes with
3 replicated drives each. The total volume capacity is 5.6T. We would
like to expand the storage capacity much more, but first we need to figure
this problem out.
Soon after loading up about 100 MB of small files (about 300kb each), the
