RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
...GPLv2 (is it incompatible with other licenses?)
This is interesting, I did not know that...
http://www.apache.org/licenses/GPL-compatibility.html
"Despite our best efforts, the FSF has never considered the Apache
License to be compatible with GPL version 2, citing the patent
termination and indemnification provisions as restrictions not present
in the older GPL license."
It seems to be compatible with GPLv3, though. But I think most
companies that use LLVM are stuck with GPLv2 due to the patents issue.

Digium G.729 codec modules updated
This evening I posted a new set of Digium G.729 codec modules to our FTP
server and web site, for Linux x86 and x86-64 processors. They were
built using GCC 4.0.1, and they now report the processor they were
optimized for when they are loaded.
The previous x86-64 module required a non-standard Asterisk binary
configuration, so this was corrected. In addition, there was only a
generic version

VoipJet Terms of Service
I've heard good things about VoipJet here, so I was going to set up an
account. Then I noticed their Terms of Service here:
https://www.voipjet.com/tos.php
Several things there are very concerning to me, and I'm interested in
what other people here think of them.

financial, or government matters -- as well as any

CentOS and SL, together?

You do understand the redistribution issues with Java, correct?
It's a Sun problem (a typical thorn for Red Hat in general), not a Red Hat one.

Problem on FC3
I''m getting a VFS kernel panic when trying to booting to FC3 from Xen.
Its the one that says I must supply a valid "root=" option. (sorry I
don''t have it verbatim.)
I''m using the xen-2.0 binary installer, kernel 2.6.9. I am using
ext3fs, but I am fairly certain that I have compiled support into the
kernel. (I''ve tired compile xen from the 2.0

Does raidzN actually protect against bitrot? If yes - how?
"Does raidzN actually protect against bitrot?"
That''s a kind of radical, possibly offensive, question formula
that I have lately.
Reading up on theory of RAID5, I grasped the idea of the write
hole (where one of the sectors of the stripe, such as the parity
data, doesn''t get written - leading to invalid data upon read).
In general, I think the same applies to bitrot of

RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
Hi Everyone,
I’d like to start a discussion about how to improve some important issues we have in the LLVM community, regarding our license and patent policy. Before we get started, I’d like to emphasize that *this is an RFC*, intended for discussion. There is no time pressure to do something fast here -- we want to do the right long-term thing for the community (though we also don’t want
