system freeze while e2fscking a partition
...tion (the /) got checked and fixed perfectly, but fsck was needed for the one where the file was downloading to. here's the problem: the system completely freeze during the check, approximately always at the same point (i tried several times, even with badblocks scanning). i even removed the incriminated file, but the problem persists... what can i do? i'm running a vanilla 2.4.19 kernel, on a debian sid, with e2fsprogs 1.27+1.28-WIP-0626-1 thanks Francesco (please replay also directly to me)

Here is my speculation: One can easily replace root password hash in kickstart...

Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is idle long enough (e.g., overnight). The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

Linux fs ACL ignored for Samba4 share in Windows?
This command lists all directories in iss_num. However the . (iss_num itself) has drwxrwxr-x Now for the incriminating file example that shows abnormal ACL in Windows: the file resides in iss_num/am/uz and has -rwxrwxrwx So there is no + in listing for share directory nor for files in the directory structure. Strange problem with "make clean"
Hello, I'm experiencing a weird problem doing "make clean" in "/usr/src". It happens on a couple of FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE machines (RELENG_4_8 to be precise). Cvsup, build & install phases all went fine, just "make clean" went wrong. I tried rm-ing the incriminated subdirectory and even rm-ing the checkout.cvs:RELENG_4_8 file and re-cvsupping but nothing changes. Here is the error log: [...] rm -f telnet authenc.o commands.o main.o network.o ring.o sys_bsd.o telnet.o terminal.o utilities.o telnet.1.gz telnet.1.cat.gz ===> secure/usr.bin/openssl rm -f b...

[LLVMdev] llvm (hence Clang) not compiling with Visual Studio 2008
Hello, I have just updated my svn copy of the llvm/clang repositories after quite a long time of inactivity, and found it not compiling on Windows with Visual Studio 2008. The incriminated file is: llvm/lib/MC/MCModule.cpp Where several calls to "std::lower_bound" are made, like: atom_iterator I = std::lower_bound(atom_begin(), atom_end(), Begin, AtomComp); With: - "atom_iterator" being a typedef on "std::vector...

ISOLINUX boot problem: request for help
...ly on the old PC. I discussed the problem on the Slax forum but I seem to be the only one with this problem. The computer is a P4 on ASUS P5GD2, 1GB RAM, AMI BIOS, 3 SATA disks, DVD-ROM, CD-RW. It _successfully_ boots from disk several SuSE distros, Slackware 12 and the unchanged content of the incriminated CD, written to an empty partition, with the following GRUB-menu.lst entry: title Slax 6.0 RC5 root (hd1,5) kernel (hd1,5)/boot/vmlinuz init=linuxrc vga=0x31a splash=verbose \ load_ramdisk=1 ramdisk_size=6666 root=/dev/ram0 rw initrd (hd1,5)/boot/initrd.gz So I know the k...

Firewall piercing - The Specified network name is no longer available.
Hi all. I'm trying to set up one of my Unix machines at home so I can access my stuff there via SMB from the Internet at large (read: from Windows-using clients'). I'm behind two NATting devices-- the lame-p Prestige DSL modem provided by Sprint DSL (a.k.a. Earthlink?) and a more typical home DSL/cable gateway device. I've poked holes in BOTH of these devices on ports 137, 138,

...ntrol sequence. <recently read> \blacktriangleright * * l.241 INTENT $\blacktriangleright $ FEEDBACK* I understand that the \blacktriangleright is an unknown control sequence from latex ... and that sounds strange to me, as I uses it often in vignettes without any issue so far. In the incriminated manual page, the code generating this sequence is the following *\ifelse{latex}{\out{$\blacktriangleright$}}{\ifelse{html}{\out{▶}}{\u25b6}}* I am wondering what is wrong and how to circumvent such issue. Samba+LDAP + Primary GIDs
Hi List, This may be more of an LDAP question than a Samba question - if so, let me know! I have an implementation of samba + openldap, and using that server as an external ldap server for an Openfiler install. I've run into problems with user authentication (WinXP) where either samba or ldap is only recognizing the user's gid - which as I understand it is the Primary Group. However,

...ademic! Is there any way to flag packages like this, with restrictive or unusual licenses. I tend to assume that anything on CRAN is GPL and not worry about it, but obviously that's untrue. I'd ask if anyone has completed the form and paid the licensing fee, but I don't want anyone to incriminate themselves. And I believe I'll be deleting the package from my systems.
