ov_comment spec
I've been working towards a mp3info like tool, OggInfo, which will surplant
vorbiscomment in functionality, and also incorportate mp3info like
featuers. Looking at existing vorbis api calls, i find:
vorbis_comment_add() /* unsupervised string insertion */
vorbis_comment_add_tag() /* formated TAG=text insertion */
vorbis_comment_query() /* scans for matching tag (up to count duplicates) and
returns the last one */

what is patched and what is not?
...nel X.Y is eventually rolled into kernel X.Z
(for some Z > Y) and the patch is unneccessary for anyone running kernels
X.P for all P >= Z.
What is *not* at all clear is how newcomers can determine the value of
"Z". Is the patch ext3-2.4-0.9.16-2417p2.gz against 2.4.17-pre2 already
incorported into the next kernel version 2.4.17-pre3, or did it hang
around until 2.4.17-pre4, or -pre5, or -pre999? Did it make it into
the kernel at all? How can we know?
Could the web page be updated to contain the information about in
which kernel version the listed patches have actually been applied?...

Theora, MMX and optimisation
Hi everyone,
I just landed into the theora planet, as a game programmer, I searched
for a free video fomat/codec and the theora choice became obvious.
However I experienced rather bad performance (at least from a game
programming point of view)
After a couple a profiling, I discovered, as previous discused in a
post found via Google, that the bottleneck is in the ogg library. An
unsane part of the

Lisp-stat and R? [was: Re: Status?]
...fforts (e.g., R-ggobi)
So, from the core of folks in the union (or intersection) of
Lisp-stat and R developers: is there anyone to respond to John's
challenge -- ``to incorporate the Lisp-stat graphics and GUI-building
capabilities into R'' I'll add a challenge of my own -- to incorportate
R modelling, static graphics and data manipulations into Lisp-stat.

User defined link function with extra parameters
Hello R users,
I would like to fit a generalized linear model for the binomial family
with some non standard link functions. For instance, this is the
Aranda-Ordaz link:
? = ln( ( (1 - ?)^-? - 1 )/?)
I know how to define a new link function to use with glm(), but I my
problem is that I have an extra parameter to estimate and I have no clue
how to incorporate that. Is there any way to tell

Improved Nelder-Mead algorithm - a potential replacement for optim's Nelder-Mead
...However, it was recently suggested to me by Soren Hosgaard that a better option would be to incorporate this as part of `optim' itself, either replacing existing Nelder-Mead or as another `method' in optim, so that it will be more widely used. Would anyone from the R-core be interested in incorporting this into optim? It should be mentioned that my code is entirely written in R. Therefore, speed gains could be achieved if translated into C (I am not proficient in C).
Best,
Ravi.

GAM function with interaction
Hello R Users,
I have a question regarding fitting a model with GAM{mgcv}. I have
data from several predictor (X) variables I wish to use to develop a
model to predict one Y variable. I am working with ecological data, so
have data collected many times (about 20) over the course of two years.
Plotting data independently for each date there appears to be
relationships between Y (fish
