Insert raster image into an R graphic
Dear useRs: Is there a way to include a raster image (e.g., .gif, .jpg, .bmp) representing a company logo, a school logo, etc. into an R graphic? For example, it would be nice to be able to include the logo of the school into the charts that a student produces for her dissertation. Similarly, while working on a competitive analysis, it would be nice to be able to replace the names of the

Disaster recovery recommendations
Greetings, I have three drives; they are all SATA Seagate Barracudas; two are 500GB; the third is a 2TB. I don't have a clear reason why they have failed (possibly due to a deep, off-brand, flakey mobo; but it's still inconclusive, but I would like to find a disaster recovery service that can hopefully recover the data. Much thanks for any and all suggestions, Max Pyziur pyz at

printer configuration issue
I've installed Samba 2.2.7a on my SuSE 8.1 system in an effort to persuade it to act as a print server on my LAN, which consists of it and 6 Windows desktops of various flavors. Right away it seemed to allow file sharing and printing from DOS and became browsable from the Network Neighborhood, but I can't get it to print from Windows. I keep getting a Status of "Access denied,

NEAR non-leaf subqueries
Hi, Xapian 1.2 supports a query like: (A OR B) NEAR (C OR D) and distributes the factors to create something like: (A NEAR 2 C) OR (B NEAR 2 C) OR (B NEAR 2 C) OR (A NEAR 2 C) Xapian 1.4 rejects such a query with the error message. OP_NEAR and OP_PHRASE only currently support leaf subqueries Because Recoll expands the terms to their stem siblings at query time, its NEAR queries

Constrained regression
Dear list members, I am trying to get information on how to fit a linear regression with constrained parameters. Specifically, I have 8 predictors , their coeffiecients should all be non-negative and add up to 1. I understand it is a quadratic programming problem but I have no experience in the subject. I searched the archives but the results were inconclusive. Could someone provide suggestions

[PATCH] Fix cppcheck warnings
fedora comes with 1.75 so I used that. Asterisk ZRTP?
What's the status of ZRTP supported by Asterisk? There was some discussion on the -dev list and -users list, but it was inconclusive. At about the same timeframe, a bug (#0010024) was opened and updated for several months, but has been "suspended" since late 2007. Does any version (1.4.x, 1.6.x) of Asterisk support ZRTP with clients (or with other servers)? Any successful testing

Status of Samba3 Beta3
OK I am a 2.2.8a/LDAP user and have thus far been very skeptical about making the switch to Samba3. I have seen inconclusive evidence of Beta 3's success rate from the postings since its release. So my question is... Has anybody been able to get Samba3b3 to act as complete replacement for their Windows or Samba2.2.8a PDC? How about with an LDAP backend? Is it stable and bug-free enough

APW printing defaults : protection fault 0x6a90450e: version 3.0.7-Debian
Trying to use SAMBA as a print server for Windows clients, I have managed to share the printers, but following the setup procedure on the clients I always get a protection fault when I try to open the "printing defaults" part of the Add Printer Wizard in XP. "Function address 0x6a90450e caused a protection fault (exception code 0xc0000005). Some or all property page(s) may not be

Joining EMC NAS to Samba 3 Domain?
I see list discussions on this subject from a few years back but they were very brief and, it seems, inconclusive. I would be interested in hearing from anybody who has discovered the "trick" to getting an EMC Celerra to join their Samba 3.x domain. I have an old NetApp Filer happily joined. I simply created an account with "smbldap-useradd -w filername" and when I then

antivirus sniffer/scanner for networks
Is anyone aware of a package that can detect viri on the network & possibly alert when there are? Here is the scenario: Our network is utilized by guest users all the time, sometimes into the thousands. We see guests from all over with a variety of OSs & hardware, all of which, we have no control or say in that matter. I am looking for something that I can run in promiscuous mode and/or

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] [RFC] add Function Attribute to disable optimization
Wouldn’t implementing this proposal be a red herring? By this I mean, it is possible that throughout the optimization phases, there is an implied assumption that all functions are similarly optimized. An example would be under certain optimization flag, compiler changes calling convention of static functions. - Fariborz On Jun 17, 2013, at 8:58 AM, Andrea_DiBiagio at sn.scee.net wrote: >

This is mostly for Richard, but others may have useful thoughts too. I just took a look at the debian stuff. It's generally looking good (though I haven't actually tried to build the debs). Copyright versus Licenses
My company recently started using a R library from RCRAN that is licensed under the LGPL Version 2 or greater per the DESCRIPTION file, but contains no copy of the LGPL notice, or any copyright notice. I've grown accustomed to paying attention to copyright and licensing as a Debian package maintainer, and sent the author of the package an email expressing my concern. The author believed that

Dropping opt level should not lead to ABI changes. Otherwise you won't be able to mix-match O2 and O0 objects either.
