Problems with Samba 3.0.5 only seeing 1360 files on a share to a Windows 2000
Hi,
I have a share:
[share]
path = /appl/md/data
valid users = +asd
write list = +asd
read only = No
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
And it has directories that have 3000 files in them, but when I look
at the same directory thru a Windows 2000, I only see 1360 files, no more.
If I type the path a file that isn't shown in the

login scripts do not run
I have a simple script that sets the time on a Windows client at
startup.
The one-line script:
net time \\myhost /set /yes
Works perfectly well when I double-click it from Windows Explorer, so I
don't think the problem lies there.
The relevant lines in my smb.conf file:
[global]
time server = yes
logon script = smbtimeset.BAT
[netlogon]
comment = shared scripts

[BUG] server/domain security + winbind: failure
Hi Samba,
I have set up 2 Samba servers in our previously all-Windows network.
I experiment a lot with it.
I want NT domain users to be able to open \\linux1\username
and see entire filesystem or a large part of it (currently I let them see
/usr) with respective user rights. User rights are determined by uid/gid of
logged in user and file uid/gid/mode (as usual).
I tested this and it works

ssh can't resolve hostnames thru WINS
[Please CC me, I'm not on the list]
My box is on a mostly Windows-populated network.
Naturally, I set up Samba and added WINS as a name resolution option.
I found out that some programs now can use NetBIOS names, other can't.
openssh falls into latter category :-(
I found that openssh use this snippet to convert hostname to ip:
if((gaierr = getaddrinfo(host, strport, &hints,

[PATCH] nomtab support
This patch was sent to me by Urban Widmark <urban@teststation.com>
(thanks Urban!).
It allows me to mount remote Win shares to my Linux box
automatically. I'm using kernel automounter.
The problem was that I have a ro root fs
and my /etc/mtab isn't writable (symlinked to /proc/mounts).
Patch adds -n and -o nomtab options for smbmount.
-o nomtab was particularly useful for me.

Samba+preempt bug in 2.4.13+preempt
Hi Samba gurus,
need your suggestions on where to plant debug code in Linux kernel
to stomp on a bug. Please read on:

3.0.7 joining NT4 domain: no go
Hi,
I am still wrestling with WinNT4 domain PDC which does not like
a Samba member. I updated PDC to SP6a. I also verified that
this admin username/password indeed can be successfully
used to join an NT workstation to the domain.
I narrowed samba failure down to net join silent failure.
It says "Joined domain PORT" but logs reveal that actually
joining failed.
I did several runs of

samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain
I looked into the docs and searched thru the Net.
Googling for "NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE"
yields rather large list of questions about
this situatins, but no working hints so far.
I believe my samba installation is done very carefully
(entirely unlike "grab rpm and be happy" style)
and I can try to find out what's going on.
Let me describe what do I have so far:

3.0.7 net join to NT4 domain - silently fails?
I've got no responce to my mail with subject
'samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain', so I dug deeper.
I also read carefully these docs:
swat/help/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html
swat/help/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html
This is what I observe:
1.I srtart from clean state:
PDC has no HUNTER machine account (chkd with L0phtcrack)
HUNTER has empty var/{lock,private}
