Asterisk Imposter binary
I found a bogus binary in my (obviously) hacked system in /usr/sbin. I
am still investigating. FWIW, it was 608828 bytes big. It appears to
have arrived recently, but I haven't determined how. Here is some more
info...

Sweave function
Dear list,
I have a question about the interaction between R code and Latex language trough the Sweave function in the package "utils".
What I'm trying to do is to write a report. Contrary to the examples shown in the Sweave Manual in which table already constructed by R are "exported" on Latex files, what I would like to do is to build a table in which I combine text and

Another question on locfit
...I would like to change the evalution structure ev in locfit() to a vector/matrix.
I created a vector and a matrix:
> vec <- mat.or.vec(101, 1)
> vec <- c(0:100)
> mat <- matrix(data = vec, nrow = 101, ncol = 1)
and I tried to change the ev parameter:
> fit <- locfit(~imposter, kern="gauss", renorm=T, xlim=c(1e-20,100), ev=vec)
This works good but when I tried to get the density points I get an error, this happens also when I use the matrix (mat) for ev:
> fhat <- fitted(fit)
Error in fitted.locfit(fit) : NA/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 10)...

Patch for NGROUPS_MAX on FreeBSD with more then 64 groups
Hi
on FreeBSD it happens that without this patch the number of groups is limited
to 32.
Since we need a greater number of groups, we send this patch.
Hope it is approved early.

Thoughts regarding the database compromise....
1] not using secure http for log-ins seems a bit 20th century.
2] to join this mailing list, I needed to send my new credentials over unsecured http - see 1] above.
3] to change password from the compromised reset password, I need to use unsecured http - see 1] above.
My point here is that if you are saddened, upset or concerned about the compromise, might the 3 above points also be on the list

How does SMB 3.0 encryption work?
...rned if it changes. IPSec (among other options) can
simply use a pre-shared key that uses a symmetric cipher.
All of these different methods require configuring the client (in one
way or another) to prearrange some information that allows it to tell
the difference between the real server and an imposter, but I don't see
how to do that in my smb.conf, so it makes me wonder whether I'm
protected, and google isn't helping.
Is it perhaps using your password somehow? Like, if an attacker knew the
password that the client is using to connect, would it then be able to
MITM and watch all...

impress viewer for openoffice
Hi,
I am attempting to find an openoffice powerpower point viewer.
I found imposter but when I run my file it says "Cannot find zip signature".
I though I would zip it up an try it again but that did not work either.
Also I dont think there is a way from the command line to go fullscreen?

Anyone know of a good power point viewer for centos?

AFS and tokenforwarding
For some reasons the afs tokenforwarding stuff has changed
siginificantly from v 2.9p2 to 2.9.9p2.
This makes it impossible to use public key authenticication in a
standart AFS environment.
I don't know the reasons for these changes.
In any case attached is a patch which restores the old behaviour.

mindrot.org TMDA sending multiple auto-responder spams
Hi,
It is a shame I feel obliged to write this email.
I sent a single email with a possible bug in it, asking if it was
working in a newer release. I got 3 spam emails from mindrot.org. Two
asking me to confirm, and then when I was forced to confirm I got
another auto-responder spam. If I had wanted the 3rd spam I would have set
"return receipt".
I got this (below) auto-responder

La.svd of a symmetric matrix
Dear R list users,
the singluar value decomposition of a symmetric matrix M is UDV^(T), where U = V.
La.svd(M) gives as output three elements: the diagonal of D and the two orthogonal matrices u and vt (which is already the transpose of v).
I noticed that the transpose of vt is not exactly u. Why is that?
thank you for your attention and your help

RFC: Introducing an LLVM Community Code of Conduct
While I'm replying to Renato here, that is mostly because there are too
many replies on this subject, and too many of them have wandered off into
other topics.
I want to specifically address the concerns with verbosity. For example:

Backing up ZFS snapshots
I have an OpenSolaris snv_105 server at home that holds my photos,
docs, music, etc, in a zfs pool. I backup my laptops with rsync to the
OpenSolaris server. All of my important data is in one place, on the
OpenSolaris server. I want to backup this data. I want to protect
against losing my data, and I would also like to recover previous
versions of files when I make mistakes.

traffic normalizer for ipfw?
Hi there,
Is there some way to configure ipfw to do traffic
normalizing ("scrubbing", as in ipf for OpenBSD)? Is
there any tool to do it for FreeBSD firewalling?
I've heard that ipf was ported on current, anything
else?
TIA,
/Dorin.
