Continous variables with implausible transformation?
Dear r users I have a question in coding continuous variables in logistic regression. When "rcs" is used in transforming variables, sometime it gives implausible associations with the outcome although the model x2 is high. So what's your tips and tricks in coding continuous variables. P.S. How to code variables as linear+square in the formula such as lrm. lrm(y~x+sqrt(x))

[PATCH supermin 9/9] kernel: Reject implausibly small kernels in /lib/modules (RHBZ#1477758).
Previous changes will reject truncated / implausibly small kernel files found under /boot, but because the code that looks for kernels in /lib/modules works slightly differently it would not work there. This uses a simple stat check to reject kernels there too. Reported by Charlie Martinez. --- src/format_ext2_kernel.ml | 14 +++++++++----- 1 file...

ATA-186 locking: implausible unlock method
For those of you wanting to salvage your Cisco ATA-186 after inadvertent locking, or after recovering your devices from a vendor who has locked them, here is a rainy-day project for you: http://www.sst.com/downloads/datasheet/S71077.pdf The above document gives exact specifications on the 4mb flash EEPROM that stores all program and configuration data on the ATA-186 (aka Komodo.) ordisurf (pkg vegan) gives implausible result
I'm having trouble with the ordisurf function in the vegan package. I have created an ordination plot (cmdscale) of 60 samples based on Bray-Curtis dissimilarities, and would like to overlay various soil edaphic characteristics as possible clues to the clustering I observe in my plot. However, I find that ordisurf creates a surface on the plot that is a perfect, even gradient - and

Cloning very slow?
Yesterday I cloned one of my VMs and, somewhat implausibly, it took virt-clone something like 8-9 hours to clone the 8Gb disk image... Copying it from the command line took a mere 6.5 minutes. I assume this is a bug, and it's not expected to take this long ;-) This was using virt-clone from python-virtinst-0.500.2-1.fc12.noarch in the virt-preview...

I have the following code (which I did not write) that generates data based on a logistic model.? I'm only getting a single record with y=1.? It seems implausible that in 50k cases that have a single y=1.? Does that ring alarm bells for anyone else? ? beta<-c(-1.585600,-0.246900) betasize<-length(beta) meanpred<-c(0,35.900000) varpred<-c(0,1.000000) #loop code

getAttr problem
Hi all, It seems that getAttr doesn't return "names" attribute properly as in getAttrib(x, R_NamesSymbol)); If you look at section 4.7.4 in "Writing R Extensions", the second example of SEXP out(SEXP, SEXP) returns NULL for the names attribute of the outer product. This is true for R 1.7.0 on both Win2000 with mingw and Redhat 9.0 with gcc. Is there something I am

Growth Curves with lmer
Dear all, I have some growth curve data from an experiment that I try to fit using lm and lmer. The curves describe the growth of classification accuracy with the amount of training data t, so basically y ~ 0 + t (there is no intercept because y=0 at t0) Since the growth is somewhat nonlinear *and* in order to estimate the treatment effect on the growth curve, the final model is y ~ 0 + t +

Hi there, I have a question about one command sentence when I follow the example in the book of "Survival analysis in S": > aml1<-aml[aml$group==1] but I got the error warning: NULL data frame with 23 rows Thus, I couldn't keep going on the next command: esf.fit<-survfit(Surv(aml1,status)~1). and also when I try > aml1<-aml[aml$group==1,]

sfq, queue len and dropped packets
Hi If I use sfq qdisc on a CBQ class I get a lot of dropped packets and the backlog itr almost always to its full value: 128. From the HOWTO I understand that the queue is at 128 packets, and SFQ shows 128/1024 flows , but how can I increase that value ? I have tried ip link set txqueuelen but this only increases the tx queue on the interface. qdisc sfq d468: quantum 1514b limit 128p flows

Differences from upstream RHEL
In my experience software compiled for RHEL "just work" with Centos and I don't remember any case where it didn't. I have however heard whisperings on a grapevine that RH may want to try and make future versions of Centos slightly incompatible with RHEL but these are probably just whisperings. If you software vendor will not support Centos as RHEL then they probably need a good

POP3 flag updates
Why does Dovecot add \Seen flag for mails that have been RETRed? Does anyone really want to use this feature? I can't remember why I implemented it originally, perhaps it was just "because other servers do that too". I'm thinking about at least changing pop3_no_flag_updates=yes to be default. There's also of course pop3_enable_last setting to enable LAST command

patch: two minor debugging-related pointer protection stack issues (PR#10832)
Full_Name: John Brzustowski Version: R-devel trunk and R-2.4.0 OS: linux Submission from: (NULL) (76.10.152.79) Here are two minor potential issues in pointer protection stack (PPS) code which could arise in debugging R with valgrind. Only the second could possibly cause a problem in normal use of R, and only under laughably implausible circumstances. (1) valgrind is given a wrong address when

SPA (NTLM) Authentication
Hello I have just spent a happy day (!) configuring Exim4 to accept authenticated connections from full blown Outlook clients. That works. Unfortunately, by ticking the "Use SPA" box in Outlook it now demands SPA on the POP3 server as well. The existing POP3 server doesn't support this style of authentication. I believe Dovecot will. We're already using it as an IMAP

Announcing a patch series for isohybrid.c
Hi, following will be 6 patch proposals for isohybrid.c 1: Encode GPT partition names as UTF-16LE 2: Correct blocking factor in APM partition block counts 3: Correct end block address of first GPT partition 4: Write GPT backup to the very end of the image 5: Change all fseek(3) to fseeko(3) 6: Introduce option --mbr and make isohybrid.c compilable standalone If the form needs adjustments,
