Iptables and impersonating another O/S
i have a CentOS 5.1 server running sshd (exposed to the outside world). i'd like to use iptables to fool nmap into thinking i'm running another O/S. e.g.: iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -d 192.168.0.64 -j PERS \ --tweak dst --local --conf /etc/personalities/macos9.conf iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -d 192.168.0.64 -j PERS \ --tweak src --local --conf

Dragon NS 9 Standard Installation errors
Hi all, wondering if you can help me. Here is the problem I was running kubuntu jaunty a while back and finally managed to install DNS Standard 9 with wine. I don't think I did anything too special , just ran the installation disk, It worked Okay, it has to be said. It survived updates of wine, right up to 1.1.38, and an upgrade to kubuntu Karmic. However, I recently had a problem which

Re: Libvirt access control drivers
I actually didn't quite catch, why oVirt can't just pass user information and you could check against it? This may require to create some configuration files for libvirt about end users. What is a advantage of authenticating oVirt, and then impersonation for end user? 2018-05-11 16:37 GMT+03:00 Daniel P. Berrangé <berrange@redhat.com>: > On Fri, May 11, 2018 at 04:26:36PM +0300,

Re: Libvirt access control drivers
Excuse me for renewing this discussion, but I am curious if you would add new module, which will be able to process users not based on unix processes, from where do you plan to get usernames? I mean, virt-manager could give them, as there is authentication in GUI, but for example when using oVirt, none of the usernames reach libvirt through the communication between server and nodes. 2018-05-09

Create network of untrusted peers (like SocialVPN, ChaosVPN, etc)
For some weeks I've been trying to devise a way to connect multiple users in various parts of the city and state, and I found out that most likely Tinc is the only daemon that does the kind of meshing I want. I was successful in connecting some servers of mine around in switch mode, but now comes the hard part: How can I authenticate clients on my network? I would also need to direct static

Re: Libvirt access control drivers
Hello! I still want to clarify one question. Instead of making authentication of oVirt and then impersonation of each user, oVirt can just pass user information inside messages and libvirt at the end can read this user information inside rpc messages (perhaps user login could be written in one of string fields in RPC message, simply login = <...> inside message). Why this (assume that it is

Windows 10 client opens a folder as a file and asks for SMB2 GetInfo SMB2_FILE_STREAM_INFO
Hi: We use 4.9.4 based samba in our product and one of our customers is running into a strange issue. If they right click on a folder and get the properties, it reports incorrect size information. When we looked at the network trace, we see that the client is walking the tree and getting information about files and folders.. Suddenly out of the blue, it opens a folder (which it had previous opened

Windows clients aren't synching profiles
Hi. I used to have samba set up on a Fedora Core 3 server that acted as a PDC for a dozen Windows XP clients. I hade roaming profiles working fine. Then I decided to upgrade (reformat) to Fedora Core 6 for the added harware support. I didn't save the right files and hosed my roaming profile (SID issue, I guess). Now I'm remaking the PDC on Fedora Core 6. I'll start everyone off

IDriver crash on install

It worked fine in the last few versions but the current one won't install: I get a popup "The program IDriver.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" the "InstallShield 1628: Failed to complete installation". A more complete log is below. Google

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
About the root problem of the thread, it seems a permission problem, but again I need some help on how to investigate further. I've just been reported a share wasn't accessible, I checked on another client and I was able to enter the folder but NOT to see the content, looked like empty. I have "hide unreadable" enabled, and while entering the share several times I noticed the

master user
Greetings all... We are thinking about using the master DB, so a few admins can impersonate an ordinary user. So, we want to define one master for a set of users. And this administrator cannot be master of the other users? Can this be done somehow? Reading the docs, it seems that if a user is defined as master, it can login as everyone. Thanks for any hint.

Important Security Announcement: AltNames Vulnerability [new version of puppet]
We have discovered a security vulnerability (“AltNames Vulnerability”) whereby a malicious attacker can impersonate the Puppet master using credentials from a Puppet agent node. This vulnerability cannot cross Puppet deployments, but it can allow an attacker with elevated privileges on one Puppet-managed node to gain control of any other Puppet-managed node within the same infrastructure. Samba shared folders and windows 7 permissions dialog.
Hi there Trying to solve an issue with samba and windows 7 permissions dialog. Problem is that sometimes windows 7 permissions dialog is lacking ldap users and groups. Looks like my problem is related to this one: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/users-and-groups-not-showing-up-in-windows-7.46023/ Sadly there is no solution in that thread. Consider the following setup: linux debian
