NT_STATUS question
Hi all
Got a couple of errors in the logs wondering what they mean???
Google does not come up with too much on these NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE,
NT_STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION, NT_STATUS_INVALID_LEVEL and
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND.
Four clips illustrating the above are below...
I have am wondering how I sort this out. I am particularly worried about

Performance Increase Suggestions
Hello Everyone,
I have a few users that are complaining about the "slowness" of
copying files to and saving files directly to the Samba server. From my
own recollections, the speed is rather identical to the speed we
experienced on our old Windows NT 4.0 fileserver.
One thing that could be the impetus of this issue is that Samba
is serving up files, for opening and copying from the

Connection of Linux/Unix clients to Samba PDC
We replaced our Win2k PDC with a Samba PDC and have all Windows clients are
connecting. But we are having difficulty logging on with the Linux and Unix
servers to this domain. Is there something that must be done differently
for them to connect?

NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID
as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not
that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major
Hardware failure.)
How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S'
from the new Samba DC?

WinXP DFS problems, debugging with dfsutil.exe
Hello Johan,
I'm having the same problems with DFS and WinXP clients since I upgraded
to 2.2.8.
I tried to clear the cache on the client side with dfsutil.exe that
comes with the Win2000 SP2 but to no avail.
Can anyone else confirm this problem?
It's also strange that on the WinXP clients the version of the samba
server is still registered as a previous version (2.2.6 or 2.2.7).

remove my email address
I am starting to receive a lot of unsolicited email at work. I did a web
search on my name to see if my email address is accessible on any web sites.
I got a hit on this site
http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Dec2000/00720.html
which is a message I sent to your list server a couple of years ago. Please
remove my email address from the web page. Thanks.

why user nobody
Hello,
today i deleted the user "nobody" (entry
"nobody:x:99:99:Nobody:/:/sbin/nologin" in /etc/passwd) on my samba-server.
As result, no user could log in to domain anymore.
Does anybody know, what the user "nobody" plays for a role in samba?

Situation -- Samba 2.2.5, RedHat Linux 8.0
Domain -- W2K AD
After boot, I can go into Network Neighborhood, and I can see the name of
the computer. When I double click on it it's unaccessible. Also, I can't
see the network from the Linux box, I can ping it all, but I can't see it.
Where is the "network neighborhood" in Linux? Also, the big question...

who to copy a registry file between users?
Hi,
I wounder if someone else had this same problem that I have, and solved it.
So here it goes...
I have 15 WinXP Pro workstations, on a Domain controlled by a Samba 2.2.8.
The domain has 36 users, each with an independent roaming profile, on the
PDC.
Every machine have Adobe Premiere installed. However Premiere's
configuration is saved on each user's registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive.

Samba as BDC in NT domain
I have this problem: there is a subnet 192.168.6.0/24 and the gateway is
192.168.6.1 which has also another nic 172.21.13.123 which belongs to
subnet 172.21.13.0 where the PDC of NT-domain is. GW does NAT and it
causes that computers/users in subnet 192.168.6.0 cant logon to NT-domain.
Is it possible to put Samba in GW machine so that it can be a backup domain
controller in NT-domain and it uses

PDF Printer issue
Hello Everyone,
I have a slight issue with configuring a PDF printer on my Samba
servers. I have input the following into my smb.conf file and it does
create the printer as well as work to create PDF files, except that it
only functions when "printing" to that printer via Excel 2002. If I
attempt it with anything else, even the Windows Test print, it fails.
Now, in the Windows

Samba - User Authentication
Hi Robert and List,
As you told me I upgrated to Samba 2.2.5 because I'm doing the test with a
machine which has RedHat 8.0 and this RedHat version comes with it....
Anyway.....
So I made the procedure step by step but I haven't found how to make my
Windows 2000 users (PDC) can access the Linux shared folder and this is
what I've done:
My smb.conf looks like this:

Automounting a shared Windows Drive with
Hello,
I have a few ideas about how to make my Linux server mount up a shared
folder on a Windows machine at boot time, however I would like to know if
there are other methods of getting it to work.
I have considered building a startup script with a high number to have
the system smbmount the shared drive like a service, in case of a power
outage. I believe that would be considered

Samba PDC and Win2K BDC
Hello,
Please forgive my ignorance if this is a old topic or is a
easy, I am rather new to these stuffs.
I have Samba running and authenticating properly in our
Organization as a PDC. Now if I wanted a Windows 2000
server as a BDC for that domain, it that possible (samba
2.2 or 3). I know the 3 alpha supports active directory.
The Windows 2000 server will be a BDC for the Samba PDC.

Ext3fs/ReiserFS Performance Enhancing
Hello All,
I have been doing some research to find a method to increase the
performance of writes to the hard drives in my servers. I am running
Samba and all writes to the server hard drives are taking at least 3 to
10 times (It varies) the amount of time it took to write such files on
our older Windows NT 4.0 File Server.
The following information is provided to keep this issue on
track...
