Dovecot impatient with mysql?
It seems dovecot is impatient with connecting with mysql, as I see in maillog entries like: Apr 6 11:48:30 z9m9z dovecot: dict: Error: mysql(localhost): Connect failed to database (postfix): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) - waiting for 5 seconds before retry Apr 6 11:48:35 z9m9z dovecot: dict: Error: mysql(localhost): Connect

Dovecot impatient with mysql?
Oh, that time is an exponential backoff on mysql not responding. So where is the time dovecot waits before backing off configured? CentOS 8 updates
Hi Is it my imagination/impatience, but I don't seem to have received any updates to CentOS 8 recently. I'm thinking particularly of firefox which was updated in CentOS 7 for a critical security update. Is there a backlog of CentOS 8 updates behind the 8.2 release? I noticed on a few occasions that my local mirroring had p...

Alpha Two? (Impatient fan seeks news)
According to THIS: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/update.html "Alpha Two is due out on December 1st" And according to THIS: http://lwn.net/Articles/11775/ "we've already got some fantastic plans for Theora Alpha Two." Believe it or not, I'm actually restraining myself from jumping up and down yelling "where is it!?! where is it?!?"...but I DID want to

two questions for R beginners
* What were your biggest misconceptions or stumbling blocks to getting up and running with R? * What documents helped you the most in this initial phase? I especially want to hear from people who are lazy and impatient. Feel free to write to me off-list. Definitely write off-list if you are just confirming what has been said on-list. -- Patrick Burns pburns at pburns.seanet.com

Ubuntu 18.04 bionic: availability of R Ubuntu packages/ppa?
Hi I just upgraded to the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and tried to add both the "Ubuntu packages" source as well as ppa. I was not able to do this, trying to add for example: deb http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic/ or using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:marutter/c2d4u am I doing something wrong, or just being impatient? Are there any plans to build these repos in the near

Documentation discrepancies
In my continued attempt to get winbindd working on a simple domain, I decided to go through the documentation in more detail, searching for some possibly hidden clues. In doing so I came across some instruction that left me a little confused... Fast Start: Cure for Impatience - Domain Member Server http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/howto/FastStart.html#id2512775 The first point is in the example smb.conf you're instructed to use 'winbind use default domain = yes' in the global parameters. Later on, in step 8, the output from wbinfo -u shows the DOMAIN+us...

Article: Creating a Live Datagrid
I just finished posting an article on creating a lightweight but very functional web grid that does a slick job of live updating whatever content you put in. Much like Rails itself, I pulled the code from an active project effort, in the hopes that others would find it useful. http://unspace.ca/discover/datagrid Or, for the impatient, give the demo a shot: http://unspace.ca/datagrid Feedback

ForwardX11Trusted
Since packaging OpenSSH 3.8p1 for Debian, I've got a flood of bug reports and confusion about the new untrusted X client configuration. At least part of this seems to be the short (2 minutes!) timeout on the cookie, so that if you're impatient like me and open a connection to a machine that takes a little while to do the key exchange, go off and do something in another window in the

prevent simultaneous copies?
Would it be worthwhile to have an option to check for the presence of the temporary dot file in the target directory and to warn the user that the file is already being transfered? Something like: --skip-in-progress-files ? We usually transfer files via a cron job, but sometimes impatient people try to push stuff out, not knowing the file is already being copied, and disk space and

vfile ACL's
(Sorry for the impatience. This was one of several questions in my email from yesterday. I thought I might have better luck being more direct.) Is there a way to set ACL's, using the vfile backend, on a truly global basis? or hierarchically (i.e. .Maildir.Sub inherits from .Maildir)? The wiki page says: "The de...

Query: Centos 4.2 availability
Hi, Not meaning to rush you folks (you're doing a great job). But I'm about to install/clone 4 computers with Centos 4. When can I expect 4.2 to be out (in DVD format preferably)? As in, is it worth waiting and saving myself the later hassle extra downloads? [I don't actually have 4.1 DVD's, just 4.0, so I pretty much have to download the DVD.ISO anyway] Cheers & Thanks,

Ubuntu 18.04 bionic: availability of R Ubuntu packages/ppa?
awesome, merci Dirk! and my apologies for not scrolling down better, I failed to see that the 18.04 update was linked to the R 3.5 issue . Further, please forgive my impatience, but I was very curious to see if the package tidyverse could be installed: I have the impression that it is short of being installed, missing just a few simple packages (with no apparent non-R dependencies). Indeed, a first naive look shows following unavailable dependencies for tidyverse: ## mi...
