can't export from iMovie 08 to ogg theora/vorbis?
Hey, I got this report on irc and I thought I would pass it along. I
verified on my machine as well.
If you have the XiphQT components installed (I have 0.1.8) and you try
to export from iMovie '08 you get a vague dialog that says:
Unable to export movie
The movie could not be exported because an error occurred. (Error code
= -32766)
I tried messing with some of the settings, but no changes.
One thing we're trying to do is document how to export into free
formats for the Mo...

Best Way to Import HC-X800 1080 60p/50p MTS to iMovie HD
Panasonic HC-X800 is expert HD camcorder with 3MOS system Pro, shooting
1080 60p/50p AVCHD footage at bitrates of up to 28Mbit/sec and
exhibiting outstanding HD images with minimum noise. The HC-X800 records
AVCHD MTS videos on P2 card.
You may want to edit AVCHD MTS videos you shoot with iMovie. The problem
is that iMovie often cannot import and recognize the 60p/50p footages,
nor can it accept the 60p/50p files directly from HC-X800 or from the
SDHC card through a card reader. You Know, AVCHD MTS is not the
compatible video format with iMovie on Mac, but the Apple Intermediate
Codec (AIC...

Samba and Preallocated Files
...ll, the wait would be interminable.
Can anybody on this list see a way to allow Final Cut to instantly create
that pre allocated file space that it wants to create on a Samba share? Are
their any Samba settings that could make this possible? It would be a coup for
Samba!
BTW, Apple's IMovie doesn't go through this pre allocation business. But,
alas, IMovie doesn't capture timecode data, so Final Cut users who want to work
with Samba shares can't simply switch to IMovie for capturing their videos.
Hoping for an insightful reply,

XiphQT doesn't export to Ogg Theora
Hi ,
I tried XiphQT with QuickTime to view all Ogg Theora files and works
perfectly.
I also try to import these Ogg Theora files into iMovie and works perfectly.
But there is a lack of export Ogg Theora function into QuickTime.
XiphQT component works well but you can't make Ogg Theora files.
There is a way to open a new ticket for this request?

transcoding to theora from quicktime using xiphqt
Hi,
I'm trying to convert some quicktime files into Ogg/Theora using the
Xiph QuickTime Components version 1.8.
The end goal is to stream these files using apache httpd and the cortado
applet (and hopefully the embedded players that will be in Firefox
soon).
Using iMovie DV on OS X 10.4.11 (intel) I'm able to export as an ogg
movie, however the resultant file has problems with audio on certain
platforms.
On cortado in Firefox (RHEL5, Fedora 9 and OS X), I just see what I
think is the first frame of the video and "Could not open audio device."
where t...

XiphQT pre-release builds
Hi,
I've just built fresh binaries of XiphQT - with trunks of Xiph libs
and FLAC from the end of the last year. Code-wise there are few
changes in the components since the last release: a memory leak fixed
and the recently reported issue with iMovie'08 solved.
I'd appreciate any help testing, especially on PPC as I don't have
access to that architecture anymore. You can find the binaries at:
http://people.xiph.org/~arek/
A question - I used to do releases just building all from trunks,
including the Xiph libs. Are there any serio...

XiphQT / Theora Questions
...ng for a way that non
technically inclined (IE afraid of the CLI) users can produce Ogg Theora
files on their own to upload (along with h.264).
I'm hoping that with XiphQT installed, for Mac users anyway it is as
simple selecting Ogg Theora on some kind of export menu from QuickTime
Pro or iMovie. Is that the case?
Secondly, is the software stable enough for use by the general population?
If XiphQT is not a suitable solution, is there another that is user
friendly?
My understanding is that many of the solutions out there are CLI only
(IE ffmpeg2theora which I use on Linux) and often re...

Interesting - is there any easy way to tie each of these builds to a windows
application? I'm really not so familiar with how to do those types of
things - didn't even know what DSF was until a few minutes ago!

XiphQT 0.1.9 released
I'm pleased to announce the 0.1.9 release of the Xiph QuickTime
Components (http://xiph.org/quicktime/).
This is another bugfix release - in short: reduced memory usage, fixed
playback of HD content and fixed compatibility with iMovie '08.
The official 0.1.9 builds have been linked against recent versions of
codec libraries. Most notably, that means Theora release 1.0, bringing
performance improvements, especially in encoding.
Details can be found in the release notes:

...those files around still.
Also note that mencoder has the capabilities to encode Theora.
On the Mac - if you don't like the command-line encoders - there is
ffmpegX, which is a graphical user interface for ffmpeg. More recently
on the Mac I used the XiphQT component to directly transcode from
iMovie, so that did not use ffmpeg2theora.
On Windows, I am not so versed with encoding tools that have a UI. I
would say that on the command line ffmpeg2theora would have been used
mostly and possibly the encoder that comes as part of the oggcodecs DS
filters. However, more likely, there is a tool with...

OT: screencast Editor for MacOs X?
Hi all,
On MacOS, we have SnapZ Pro to RECORD screencasts.
Is there a comfortable - *1 - screencast Editor, like CamTasia on
Windows?
At the very minimum I want to cut parts of the movies, insert "slides"
and superpose drawings (frames, arrows, ..) or text?
Alain
*1 : not FinalCut, obviously.

Please help me convert Quicktime Movs into .ogg
Hi there, I'm Andy Jenkins. I work in broadcast video and have recently
had a client ask for a programme supplied as a .ogg file. I am in no
way a computer programmer, but am trying hard to find out more about
creating ogg files. I have downloaded the ogg quicktime components and
can certainly view and hear picture and audio, however I cannot
successfully export an .ogg. I can however

Producing oggs with XiphQT - testers needed!
Dear all,
As the next version of XiphQT is mostly ready, I thought it could use
some more wide pre-release testing.
The major change since last release is the addition of Ogg exporter
and Vorbis and Theora encoders. Any feedback on how this new
functionality performs (or doesn't!) with audio/video
editing/producing software will really help. Also, comments and
suggestions on the work of
