How to calculate exact bitrate/filesize w/ Vorbis? Plz help
Hi, I'm quite familiar w/ mp3 cbr/abr/vbr encoding, as well as mpeg4 (cbr/vbr,etc). And I can always calc the bit rate for a given file size with: file size * 8000 / length in seconds = kbits/sec Works great w/ mpeg4 + mp3. BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME: I cannot get oggenc (1.0x version) to give me the file size I want. I calc. it with the above formula, and nothing comes out right. Then I do

Hi all, As part of a research project we are creating a statistical software tool and will be using R as the computational engine. I was wandering whether we should also use R for plotting. R has a good plotting flexibility and an extensive library of available plot types. However, our application is supposed to give our users an advanced look-and-feel as well. For the plotting we will

ActiveRecord, blocking or async, logging, syslog/udp
Here''s a gedanken experiment for those w/ far more knowledge than I about ActiveRecord, etc.: Let''s say my database is very remote and on a very slow machine. Let''s further say that my app has an action that leads to a very simple insert into the "impressions" table of the db, a la "INSERT INTO impressions(docid) VALUES($docid);" - and

I used to get bad echo and also voice breaking up during a conversation, so I upgraded the machine (from a PII 300 to a Athlon 1.8GHz) and have resolved the voice breaking up issues but still seem to have a fairly bad echo on *both* sides of the conversation. Currently I am only using the system for outbound calls, so I am always calling from the digium USB port phone and out to the telco using a

winbind on Solaris 2.5.1 not working.
...ycutter. But if I run winbindd like this " truss -aefo /tmp/file winbindd &" it creates the /tmp/.winbindd/pipe and runs but fails to authenticate. I think this could be the libnss_winbindd.so file failing but not sure. Without running winbindd in truss it fails with a broken pipe imediatly after attempting to connect on port 445 in the log.winbindd. I really need some help with this and please dont tell me to upgrade to a newer version of solaris as this is a constraint established by US MARINE CORP. Although I have it working perfectly on solaris 2.7 but i cant use it. Philip C...
