preserving \Recent when moving messages
...reserve \Recent, or am I out of luck? Some people have reported that my script which shuffles around expired or oversized mail also causes their clients to report it as already read. I guess those clients check \Recent instead of \Seen when they download. I wish I knew which clients. With Mail::IMAPClient I tried using move(), copy(), and migrate() but the result is the same-- once it looks at the source message, \Recent is gone. (I tried patching it where it greps out the \Recent flag before appending the messages, but that causes a silent error.) Directly appending to the destination folder does...

Create a malicious directory
Use scripts to create some malicious directories. Here is my creation process. How can I prevent the creation of these directories? I used the python imapclient script to create a directory. ENVELOPE mishandling of Subject lines with quote(s)?
...-------------------------------------------------------------- Notice that message 89's Subject line Subject: 2nd Edition of Brennesholtz/Stupp "Projection Displays" Available has quotes and this dovecot's ENVELOPE response failed to get parsed by a popular Perl module (Mail::IMAPClient::BodyStructure::Envelope). I have a hunch that this is dovecot's fault but I could be wrong. How should dovecot (or any imap server) deal with Subject lines with quotes inside ENVELOPE? ENVELOPE seems to encapsulate most of the important information and its format can be parsed cleanly a...

looking for IMAP testing tool
I'm looking for an IMAP testing tool, suitable to use with Dovecot IMAP. It needs to support TLS, STARTTLS, and login/authentication. It needs to be able run from command line, shell scripts, and even do so under cron jobs (e.g. a way to supply the password to use w/o a terminal prompt). Typical interactive mail clients just don't cut it (even the text mode ones). One reason is I need

imap doesn't like my passwd
...is discussion. I spent a day on figuring out an issue with login into IMAP. It turned out that the { character in my password was the problem. Grrr... The strange thing that I could successfully configure my IMAP connection my Outlook client. Only when I try to connect programmatically by using an ImapClient component (I tried several), then it fails by throwing that BAD invalid characters message. So I wonder how I can make the login succeed WITHOUT changing my password.... -- Sent from: http://dovecot.2317879.n4.nabble.com/

Modified websieve for use with dovecot
...ode I did not need (e.g. ldap support, password authentication) and coded Kerberos5 auth (via GSSAPI or SASL) in. I understand that this makes the work mostly useless to others. As however the dovecot adaptations were done by removing internally used perl packages by ones on CPAN such as Mail::IMAPClient and Net::Managesieve that part of the code should be of a broader interest. If someone is interested to have a look or even wants to help make it again a more universal tool I have put the code on ftp://ftp-zeuthen.desy.de/pub/unix/mail/websieve.pl Current status: I have tested the creation an...

Does either version 1.2 or 1.4 support UIDPLUS?
My ISP currently runs version 1.2 and I'm looking to make use of UIDPLUS because I want to append and then move the message I've just appended to another folder so then I need the UID in order to address the new message. My ISP says they have plans to upgrade to version 1.4 soon. Do either of these versions support UIDPLUS? ie. give me the new UID as the response to an append?

Marking messages read / retaining date with Sieve
I'm trying to mark several hundred thousand messages as read as they are delivered via dovecot-lda(1). (I'm importing some mail from another format for migration purposes.) I've been able to do this with Sieve, but it has the side effect that the messages' received and saved dates are set to the current date, and Apple Mail (at least) uses one of these to display the message date.

Quota warning message ala courier
I have to face it, my users are retards: * either they're using crap MUAs which will not display their quota to them * or they're using POP with "leave mail on server" and will never notice their quota, unless it's too late * and once their quota is exceeded, their mails will bounce -- they'll never notice that, though. Thus I need a feature in dovecot that will

Dovecot 2.1rc1 + 2.0.16 woes regarding fts_squat
...x" (for the purposes of normal IMAP retrieval as opposed to IMAP TEXT/BODY searching) is fine and uncorrupted. I freshly import these mailboxes between test iterations and any version changes anyway, so if there's corruption, it's happening within dovecot only. I'm using use Mail::IMAPClient to create + append mail over localhost, not any direct mdbox conversion trickery. In looking through the code, I see that mmap() is called for the *ENTIRE FILE*, which is guaranteed to fail on large indexes. I assume this was done out of expedience, but it's a "risky" sort of thing...

Need fast Maildir to mdbox conversion
I looked around the 'Net to see if there might be a custom program for offline Maildir to mdbox conversion. So far I haven't turned up anything. The problem for us is that the dsync program simply takes a lot of time to convert mailboxes. I wonder if time could be saved with a program that is optimized to convert mailboxes without the fancy locking that dsync needs to do. Does have (or

Dovecot, LVS and the issues I have with it.
We run around 5 dovecot (debian etch 1.0.rc15) POP/IMAP 'nodes' using the LVS load balancer and an NFS based SAN. it works pretty well. I love the robustness of load balancing POP/IMAP. We do a reasonable amount of throughput through these especially at peak times pushing our SAN to around 1.5k IOP/s We currently have two issues with this setup. One of which is NFS index corruption
