problem pasting into Illustrator CS2
To Whom it May Concern:
I have been using R version 2.6.2 for awhile now, installed on a
PowerMac G5 running OS 10.4.11 I typically get Quartz graphics
output from R into Adobe Illustrator CS2 simply by copying and
pasting. Upon upgrading to R version 2.7.0, I now receive an error
from Illustrator when trying to paste R generated graphics from the
Quartz window into Illustrator. I do

problems with text in plots when using illustrator
Hi folks,
I have some problems with plots (any) saved from R (saved from the menu). It
seems that text (either plot titles or axes) is sometimes not "concatenated"
in a full "vector" (Illustrator-speaking). I mean, sometimes, a given title
is broken in several different chunks even though in R, it's in one "block".
Moreover, axis values (especially those < 10)

Modify pdf file with Illustrator.
Dear list,
Some times I want to modify the pdf file which produced by R with
illustrator. But when I use Illustrator open the pdf file, it often
makes the pdf some little changed. Anyone have some suggestions? Is it
better to use other file type, not pdf? Or when I produced the pdf, I
should set some other parameters?
Thank you

export graphics for editing in Illustrator
Dear R users,
I would like to edit my graphics in Illustrator. I know that I can set
up almost every graph parameter in R, but the time I will spend
searching for the correct settings might not be worth since I'm quite
used to Illustrator and since I will in any case use Illustrator to
prepare for publication.
Up to now, I've used savePlot() with type=("eps") but I'm

Mac: importing saved PDF figures into Illustrator CS
Hello,
This is a usage question for others with experience of R under the Aqua Mac OS X interface.
Basically, I don't succeed in importing PDF files (created with the 'Save As' menu to Quartz device windows) into Illustrator. Versions up to (and including?) 10 loose paths (lines/polygons) and or fill them in black. Version CS (11) on the Mac imports almost correctly, but, "to

illustration of graphics terms in R?
Hello,
I'm using R to do survey analysis and plotting. I've gotten good help on this
list to sort out specific plotting issues, but I think I could do a lot more
on my own if I could find a good reference that explained some of the graphics
terms and concepts used by R. I haven't found a general discussion of the
graphics environment, with illustrations. Part of my problem is that the

Scatter plot transparency
Hi all,
I'm putting a few plots together and wondering what format would be best to
export a few scatter plots to Illustrator to make a figure. I'm thinking
about overlaying some plot in Illustrator, so the export file type has to be
transparent for Illustrator (version 10).
I tried PNG and TIFF, but it does not seems to have transparency that is
recognized by Illustrator (or Photoshop for

Illustrator 7.0 worked . . . once?
Hi,
The first time I tried to run Adobe Illustrator 7 under wine it worked fine
(other than it wouldn't open or save any files). Now, it gives me an error
message: "Unable to find AIRes.dll. Please reinstall application." The file
AIRes.dll is right where it's supposed to be. Any ideas?
My system: RedHat 7, (sorry, I don't know which version of wine -- probably

Dropping columns from data frame
How does R do it, and should I ever be worried? I always remove
columns by index, and it works exactly as I would naively expect - but
HOW? The second illustration, which deletes non contiguous columns,
represents what I do all the time and have some trepidation about
because I don't know the mechanics (e.g. why doesn't the column
formerly-known-as-4 become 3 after column 1 is dropped:

good procedure for creating plots for PowerPoint
I am generating some graphs (on GNU/Linux using R 1.5.x) for a
PowerPoint presentation my boss is giving next week. He just tried
cut/pasted a plot off of a PDF file I had created, but he complained
that the fonts were too small and fuzzy, and that he couldn't change
the background. I have been playing with png(bg=transparent), but I
am not sure what appropriate height, width parameters and

negative numbers in R plots in Illustrator 8 (and higher?) (PR#2199)
Negative numbers in (encapsulated) postscript generated by R loose their sign when opened in Adobe Illustrator 8 (french). This was so in 1.5.x and remains in 1.6.0.
I suppose that this is a known issue, although it is rather a flaw in Illustrator than in R, if my analysis of it is correct. I sent a lengthy mail containing a solution (ISOLatin1Encoding has to be redefined) to the r-help mailing

how to draw stacked ellipses to illustrate the shared and specific of multiple objects using R
Dear R-help listers,
I am now asking for helps on how to draw stacked ellipses to
illustrate the shared and specific of multiple objects using R.
My problem comes from my population genetics study. Now, I genotyped
three species, and I get known about the amount of shared and specific
haplotypes in each of the species and their combinations. I want to
illustrate this result in three stack

New package: ``denstrip'' for compactly illustrating distributions
Dear R users,
I'd like to announce a new package on CRAN called ``denstrip''. It
implements ``density strips'' and other graphical methods for
illustrating and comparing distributions in a compact fashion.
Posterior distributions of parameters are often summarised using point
and line drawings of means and credible intervals. This is common,
for example, in multiple regression or meta-analysis. Density
strips generalise these to illustrate whole di...

illustrating a report
Hi all
I would like to know a bit more about illustrating an a4 page within R.
Finally I would like to have a pdf with multiple pages containing some
statistics.
I'm already able to produce a pdf, containing a plot in the center of one a4
page. As a next step I would like to set a title on top of this a4 page
(maybe with absolute positions, if not pos...

Using R to illustrate the Central Limit Theorem
Dear All
I am totally new to R and I would like to know whether R is able and
appropriate to illustrate to my students the Central Limit Theorem,
using for instance 100 independent variables with uniform distribution
and showing that their sum is a variable with an approximated normal
distribution.
Thanks in advance,

using which to identify a range of values
Hello, I am trying to identify values that fall within a certain range. I
thought that I might be able to use the which function to do this but I have
been unable to figure out a way to do it. Perhaps a little code will
illustrate what i am trying to do.
a <- rnorm(1000, 100, 50)
which( 100 < a <= 200)
of course this doesn't work but illustrates what I ma trying to do, If
