Win2k(IIS5) + Samba weirdness
Hi all;
I don't know if this is a specificly a Samba problem, so appologies if
this is a little OT. Anyhow, I have a Windows 2000 Server (SP2) running
IIS5 hosting a number of web sites. The content itself is housed on a
RH 7.1 Linux box running Samba 2.2.2, which Windows mounts.
Now, occasionly when going anywhere beneath the root of a web site
IIS reports a 404 error (NTFileMon confirms this too, that the file
cannot be found) even though the fi...

IIS, ASP, and File Change Notification
I'm running IIS5 on windows 2000 with the root web directory mapped to a samba
directory. Everything works great except for IIS's asp caching. Unless I
explicitly disable asp script file caching, IIS refuses to invalidate cached
asp files without a reboot. Research, including the following MS kb entry,

invalid byte sequence utf-8 OR best option to sanitize content brought in with net::http? single non-utf character causes rails to crash

something.
2) is iconv my best option. seems kind of nuts that i have to reencode
the entire html page for one character. this does work using the
translit//ignore options i get my pages, but i wonder at the
overhead.
3) as usual, trying to make my ms iis5 servers do anything useful is a
non-starter. sure it says it can generate utf-8, but trying it the
(typically confused and poorly documented) 25 different ways to make
it do so, results in nothing but more wasted time. so i need a good
rails solution that "just works."
4) it occurs to me...

routed vs non routed
In an effert move my Dmz from a snapqear roouter to Linux with shorewall.
Question is I have network 64.42.53.200/29
which makes default gw 64.42.53.201 network 64.42.53.200 broadcast
64.42.53.207
mask 255.255.255.248 and I want to set up shorewall with eth0 64.42.53.202
eth1 local eth2 dmz where dmz will use say 64.42.53.203 for web and email
server.
Where I do not need or should I say use

Error messages every 32min after Win2k security update
...a number of patches to the win2k box via
windows update. I'm having trouble finding out exactly what patches
were installed, but there are a stack of .log files with identical
timestamps in my WINNT directory that might be the complete list:
KB873339.log
imsins.log
KB885836.log
comsetup.log
iis5.log
KB885835.log
ocgen.log
ockodak.log
Ever since I installed those patches, I've been getting periodic errors
in my samba logs. They occur every 32 minutes, but only when the Win2k
machine is on:

Possible memory leak in smbd?
...one particular client (IUSR_JUNIPER)
is taking 200MB in memory, far different from all the other smbd processes.
Should I be concerned about a memory leak here? I don't think samba would
be caching any files, so I can't see why it'd use this much memory.
That windows client is a win2k IIS5 server, with well over 60 sites that are
hosted off a samba share on this linux server. Smbstatus tells me it's got
60 connections open for that client (IUSR_JUNIPER).
Problems arise every week or two, when smb connections are blocked and one
process is at 100%cpu, and can't be terminated...
