NMMAPSdata package
...been updated. While the data have been publicly available for some time now, NMMAPSdata, in addition to being a convenience for R users, assembles all of the city data into one package and contains some utility functions for managing the database. NMMAPSdata can be downloaded from http://www.ihapss.jhsph.edu/data/NMMAPS/R/ The package comes with a vignette which contains an overview of the data and a few example analyses. Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Roger Peng Leah Welty _______________________________________________ R-packages mailing list R-packages at stat.math....

GAM: Getting standard errors from the parametric terms in a GAM model
I am new to R. I'm using the function GAM and wanted to get standard errors and p-values for the parametric terms (I fitted a semi-parametric models). Using the function anova() on the object from GAM, I only get p-values for the nonparametric terms. Does anyone know if and how to get standard errors for the parametric terms? Thanks. Jean G. fundamental guide to use of numerical optimizers?
I was in a presentation of optimizations fitted with both MPlus and SAS yesterday. In a batch of 1000 bootstrap samples, between 300 and 400 of the estimations did not converge. The authors spoke as if this were the ordinary cost of doing business, and pointed to some publications in which the nonconvergence rate was as high or higher. I just don't believe that's right, and if some
