Install RPM package via puppet
I am trying to get a package (iftop) installed on a test node using puppet
but I can''t get it to install. This seems like it should be simple, but I
can''t figure out what I am missing. Have done a lot of searching for
similar problems and the answers I found seem to be vague in the details
and explanation.

LoadAvg , Codec and Bandwidth Utilisation
1) If I see the Loadavg more than 4 , whats the immediate solution to get it
under 1 APART from restarting the server ?
2) I get too much of cross connections.
Can Codec be the culprit ? I use g729. Can using GSM will solve the problem
? What could be the other reasons ?
3) Anyway to measure the bandwidth utilisation from the server ?

smbd's using up 100% of all cpu's and load avg slowly going up
Hi,
Running samba sernet 4.1.6-7, I've noticed the load avg slowly / steadily
creeping up (.e.g > 100). I'm now noticing that several smbd processes are
at 100%. I don't actually notice that much bandwidth usage on the system
(e.g. iptraf/iftop). Any idea what's causing this?
Restarting smbd helps for a few days, but then the high load avg returns.
Thanks,
Sabuj

Monitoring network traffic to a host
...and then look at its pretty graph to check if/when the
bitrate hit 100 Mbps. Being able to watch the pretty graph in real time
through a web interface would be nice as well, but is not required.
Is any such program included in CentOS 7 or EPEL 7?
The closest thing that I've found thus far is iftop (despite its lack of
pretty). Unfortunately, it won't allow me to see the peak bitrate over
the whole period in which the media is playing.
Thanks for any suggestions!

routing ssh to secondary uplink
Hello,
I''m following this HOWTO
http://linux-ip.net/html/adv-multi-internet.html to route outgoing SSH
from a secondary ISP. I can see using tcpdump, jnettop, iftop that when
one of the computers located in my internal network is trying to SSH to
a box online using SSH, packets are routed via the secondary internet
ethernet card. However, packets don''t seem to know how to get back.
my script:
route add default gw 10.2.2.1

Shaping incoming VoIP traffic fails
Hello,
I''m trying to get lossless VoIP traffic over my 3000k/500k ADSL line. Shaping
outgoing traffic is no problem: I set total ceil for outgiong device (ppp0)
to 450kbit and put VoIP into highest prio class. Even during full upload the
voice is clean on the other end.
Now I tried to get the same result for incoming data. I attached HTB to eth1
where the incoming voip traffic is

[XCP] promiscuous mode for vif
Good day.
Found strange behavior in PV-domains. Application like tcpdump or iftop
require promiscuous mode for interface. And this feature is disabled by
default, as I understand.
message from iftop:

device (socket: Address family not supported by protocol)

We started the 500 calls and used milliwatt app on the first and record
on the second host to check the quality. Alternatively just start 500+
calls and call yourself on top. So you can get a good idea how the
quality is.

Need more meetme users -- hitting some limit
...ing about 250% of the CPU (4 physical, 8 logical
cores).
'ulimit' (added to /usr/sbin/safe_asterisk in the run_asterisk() function)
says the open file limit is 397,006.
'ls -l /proc/$(cat /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.pid)/fd | wc -l' says
Asterisk only has 2,194 files open.
'iftop' sees about 24Mb of bandwidth in each direction between the boxes.
Using confbridge() I can easily get 3,000 calls (14,869 open files, 180Mb
bandwidth), but I'd lose some functionality and have to re-write parts of
my application.
Any clues of what limit I'm hitting and how to incre...

Performance after failover
...y trying out GlusterFS 3.3.
I've got two servers and four clients, all on separate boxes.
I've got a Distributed-Replicated volume with 4 bricks, two from each
server,
and I'm using the FUSE client.
I was trying out failover, currently testing for reads.
I was reading a big file, using iftop to see which server was actually
being read from.
I put up an iptables firewall on the active server, and the client hung, as
expected.
After some time, I guess about 30 seconds, the failover kicked in and the
operations
went to the other server, resuming the read.
However, after going to the othe...

GlusterFS 3.4 Fuse client Performace
Dear GlusterFS Engineer,
I have questions that my glusterfs server and fuse client
perform properly on below specification.
It can write only *65MB*/s through FUSE client to 1 glusterfs server (1
brick and no replica for 1 volume )
- NW bandwidth are enough for now. I've check it with iftop
- However it can write *120MB*/s when I mount nfs on the same volume.
Could anyone check if the glusterfs and fuse client perform properly?
Detail explanations are below.

I've set 4 glusterfs servers and 1 fuse client....

GlusterFS as virtual machine storage

and docs describe reconnect as very costly. If I set ping-timeout to

However I find it very strange because in the past I actually did end
up with read-only filesystem despite of the low ping-timeout.
With replica 3 after node reboot iftop shows data flowing only to the
one of remaining two nodes and there is no entry in heal info for the
volume. Explanation would be very much appreciated ;-)
Few minutes later I reverted back to replica 3 with arbiter (group
virt, ping-timeout 1). All nodes are up. During first fio run, VM

Easy Accounting?
I have an office setup with shorewall and when there''s bandwidth
problems, I''d like to know who''s hogging my bandwidth and how (port).
What would be the best approach to have shorewall show me something
like:
IP | Port | Bytes In | Bytes Out
I have 20 PCs connected via DHCP.
I looked at the documentation and thought that accounting may be close,
