iscsi target for C5.x
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to bring up a iSCSI Target on a C5.3+ server ? Various blogs suggest compiling IET from source, but thats not real appealing to me (not that I can't do it, I just don't want to have to support it long term). I looked in rpmforge but didn't see anything.

tgtadm and exported iscsi volumes
Out of haste I decided for the first time not to pull down and compile iet to export a single volume to a windows machine so I just used tgtd. Well, much more time later than otherwise would be the case had I used iet, when I mount the volume on the windows ini, it can't find and install a driver? WTF? This have anything to do with the tgtd being a tech preview:) A...

Extra space in LLVM_DEFINITIONS causes CMake 3.1 to fail
..., do we really want to require these versions just to have LLVM_DEFINITIONS defined as a string instead of a list? A simple check if LLVM_DEFINITIONS is empty in add_llvm_definitions might solve the issue. -- Johannes S. Mueller-Roemer, MSc Wiss. iSCSI ini and ESX Server
I always used IET on CentOS but I have a quick server to setup to backup some VM's, then migrate to DAS on another server and the easiest way for me will be to accomplish this via iSCSI vmfs stores. I figured I would just use the ini that ships with CentOS but have never used it against ESX, anyone do this and h...

Xen domU''s and iscsi initaitor problems.
...is list in the past, please accept my humble apologies. Configuration: Currently, I have two Xen hypervisors. Both are AMD64 based machines, one running Ubuntu LTS, the other running Ubuntu Edgy. Both machines are running Xen compiled from source. A third machine is acting as an ISCSI target using IET. IET is presenting a 10GB LUN to the domU''s. I have two separate domU''s. One with core-iscsi, another with open-iscsi. Problem: Both initiators exhibit a common symptom. When I am any running I/O over the channel the domU will stop responding and present an error on the console:...

as promised description of my XEN HA setup
...9;'m forced to use SLES 10SP3 with XEN 3.2, which excludes the possibility of using things like cLVM (which I don''t think I need anyway). So: Storage: I use two HP ML370 G5 machines with DRBD and heartbeat on them. They are linked by two Gigabit bonded NICs for syncing. They offer IET across two other NICs with IPs in different segments. DRBD is on top of LVM and LVM is again on top of DRBD to be able to create a LV for each DomU. Network: switches are HP Procurve 1810. Not the fastest switches, but also not the most expensive ones. Will report later on if they can handle i...

Limiting bandwidth
Greetings, Scenario: Centos box with eth1 (10.0.0.0/24) and eth0 (192.168.0.0/24) segment on eth0 has access to full bandwidth of uplink Both are on 100mbps switches Requirements: bandwith on segment on eth1 needs to be throttled to different speeds - say 32, 64, 128kbps and the such. Required for application performance testing purposes. As usual my girlfriend google is very verbose.

Best Practices for PV Disk IO?
...s wondering if anyone''s compiled a list of places to look to reduce Disk IO Latency for Xen PV DomUs. I''ve gotten reasonably acceptable performance from my setup (Dom0 as a iSCSI initiator, providing phy volumes to DomUs), at about 45MB/sec writes, and 80MB/sec reads (this is to a IET target running in blockio mode). As always, reducing latency for small disk operations would be nice, but I''m not sweating it. I just wondering if anyone''s experienced similar behavior, and if they''ve found ways to improve performance. Cheers cc -- Chris Chen <muf...

eeebox and FreeBSD notes
for what it is worth, i have put some notes on using FreeBSD on the EEE Box. http://info.iet.unipi.it/~luigi/FreeBSD/eeebox.html Most things work, the one big remaining issue is configuring X11 so that it recognises non standard resolutions e.g. 1680x1050 or similar using the "intel" driver. feedback welcome cheers luigi

Possible to run iscsi-target and initiator on same server?
...all the prerequisites except the shared storage and thought I'd give this a try. I'm running: - CentOS 5.3 kernel 2.6.18-164.el5 - iscsitarget-1.4.18-1 - iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.868-0.18.el5_3.1 I can discover and login to the node using iscsiadm on the server that is not also running iet, and see the new scsi disk. When I try to login using iscsiadm on the server that is running the ietd daemon, I see packets going over the lo interface in both directions, but I get error 8 - connection timed out.
