TDB corruptions
..., I happen to see the following case of tdb corruption many a times. We have samba boxes as member server to a windows PDC. some times I see that some users are not able to login to access the shares on samba machine. That same user look up was succesful earlier , but now it fails. If I remove the idmap_cache.tdb (after stopping samba) the problems gets solved for the time being. But the problem arises again after some days. I have read in "samba how to" guide that we should run tdbbackup regularly to overcome this tdb corruption problem. But I was wondering if this tdb corruption problem app...

BUILTIN-Groups break winbind_idmap
Hello, i want to migrate from samba 3.2.6-37 (sernet-built on sles9) to 3.3.12-25 (sernet-built on debian lenny). It's a domain member server in an w2k3 ad with all company files on it. I migrated the smb.conf and moved the winbindd_idmap.tdb to the lenny server. The winbind idmap options are still the same with tdb as idmap backend and don't conflict with entries of /etc/group and

...ught up in a weird situation while using samba 3.0.28. There is a requirement from the customer that we should support ADS with 64000 objects. When we implemented the feature, we found couple of things mentioned below: 1. After joining ADS with 64k users, samba takes around 20 - 25 min to populate idmap_cache.tdb and winbindd_cache.tdb This is because we haven't turned of enumeration and we would be fixing it for next maintenance release of the NAS product. 2. We periodically check the quota state of all the users using repquota command. It refers to /etc/nsswitch.conf for mapping user ids to nam...

Problems using multiple Samba servers in a Win2003 AD domain
I've been at this for days, and making no headway. It's very discouraging. I have a Win2003 domain, that has the Services for Unix extensions installed. I am trying to have multiple Samba servers as domain members. (in my case, one desktop sharing files, and one laptop, accessing the shares). And at the moment, it doesn't (fully) work. Each Samba server can see shares from the other.

Problems resolving most users with winbind and AD/SFU
Hello all, I'm having a problem with Winbind resolving some users from AD on a W2KSP4 server running SFU 3.5 [8.0.1969.1]. All users and groups in the AD domain have been assigned UIDs and GIDs via SFU. The Linux fileserver is running CentOS 5.3 with Samba 3.0.33-3.7.el5. The fileserver has been joined to the domain using authconfig with proper modifications made to nsswitch and pam.
