Understanding UID/GID mapping models.
...nderstand how UID/GID mapping rules are triggered. This[1] seems to suggest that if I do not specify the idmap uid/gid parameters in smb.conf, then authenticated usernames are mapped to "local" user accounts having the same name. If, however, I _do_ specify idmap uid/gid then one of the idmap_* allocator modules is used. Is my understanding correct there? We have a mixed NIS/AD environment, and in most cases we do not use idmap parameters and, as such, rely on the existence of an NIS account to map UID/GID's. However, when users attempt to set permissions from Windows, it appears...

3.0.21c: idmap_rid segfaults on AIX 5.3 ML4
Hi everyone, I'm trying to use idmap_rid on an AIX 5.3 ML4 machine. Samba compiled successfully using the IBM compiler (vac.C) version 6. The only programs I supplied where db and libiconv. I followed the instructions, and put nsswitch/WINBIND in /usr/lib/security, and edited /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg. When I start "winbindd...

Centos+AD integration (uid/gid problems)
Hi, I need to have several EL machines in an AD env. Joining the machines was easier than expected using authconfig, but what happens now is that blahdomain\blahuser gets assigned a different, random ID each time I use a different station. In AD I did specify the UID and GID in the UNIX Attributes tab for blahuser, but it gets totally ignored; so do the other values (for home, shell etc).

Can we update idmap documentation for 3.6?
Just when I thought I had idmap changes correct for 3.6, I realize I have a setup that's not quite right: getent passwd ->No AD users getent passwd DOMAINA\\aduser aduser:*:1001601:1000513::/home/aduser:/bin/bash Shouldn't "getent passwd" show both local and AD users? Samba has had such an identity crisis over the years with idmap documentation. Depending, on where you

CentOS update broke Samba
Running CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908. Have Samba running as our fileserver on our (mostly) Windows network. Ran my "normal" yum updates today, and Samba was upgraded (last updates were on 8/10/2019). I was on 4.8.3 before; now it's 4.9.1: Updated samba-4.8.3-6.el7_6.x86_64 @updates Updated samba-client-4.8.3-6.el7_6.x86_64
