stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
I must be doing something really stupid. I've read the docs for icecast2 and ices2. Icecast2 is running fine; I can get stats.xml and see that it is running. When I run ices2, I get the following error in ices.log: ... [2005-12-07 05:37:51] INFO playlist-basic/playlist_basic_get_next_filename Loading playlist from file "/home/john/playlist.txt" [2005-12-07 05:37:51]...

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
...g" and "Visitors.ogg". Got it working, however. Tried playing a different ogg file than Visitors.ogg and it worked!!! If you want to test the file Visitors.oggyourself: http://www.archive.org/download/Shapeshifting_In_Abalone/Visitors.ogg My understanding of the encoding section in ices2.xml is that ices2 simply tries to output the given ogg file with the supplied encoding parameters to icecast. Question: The encoding parameters in ices2.xml do not have to match the encoding bitrates for the played file, correct? I assume the answer is no, as the ogg file that worked was encoded...

Installation Worries
I have been trying to start up Icecast2 using http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_webradio_with_icecast2_ices2 as my docset. The icecast server comes up; I'm able to go to http://localhost:8000/ and see the pages. I can't seem to get the ices2 part working. I use the suggested config file: [...] <input> <module>playlist</module> <param name=&quot...

Icecast2 and Ices2 on Pentium III with Debian 6.0
Hello. On a PC Pentium III I had a audio server working properly with Icecast2 and Ices2, running on Debian 5.0 (Lenny). Now I've upgraded to Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) and after a few seconds of running everything correctly, successive cuts begin to occur in the audio. For Debian 6.0 I have used the same settings for Icecast2 and Ices2 I used in Debian 5.0. Increasing "burst"...

problems streaming ogg with ices2 and icecast2
Hi there, I'm trying to stream audio from my audio card using ices2/icecast2. I've been following the unofficial HOWTO at http://www.6809.org.uk/media/ices2-howto.shtml. So, I've downloaded and installed libshout2, ices2 and icecast2. Everything starts up OK and I can get stats by pointing my browser at the admin page: <?xml version="1.0&q...

ices2 + stdin + metadata
Hi, does anybody know some info about posting metadata to ices2 via stdin? My system is based on a PHP-script wich sends PCM-data from the player (mpg123 or ogg123) over a pipe to ices2. As i understand the documentation, metadata is sent as normal clear text within the PCM-data when using stdin. I tried the following format: \n artist=foo\n title=bar\n (\n is...

ices2 memory leak on Debian/ARM
Hi all.. I'm having a memory leak issue with Ices2 (using package 2.0.1-8 from Debian stable on arm platform).. I've tried turning off metadata, modifying samplerate, and some other misc. things that haven't helped. Eventually, during a stream, ices2 will invoke oom-killer and bring the whole system down. It eats about 0.05MB/Sec of memory...

ices2 metadata update causes gaps
...at arises is "Is Vorbis > > when used this way truly gapless?" > > Yes, it is. ... and I can confirm this. No gaps were perceivable decoding in ogg123. However, an interesting effect can be had if all the parts have the same serial number. You get a bump just like with the ices2 metadata update. ogg123 doesn't complain, but ogginfo does. However, on the icecast2 streams, neither complains. I've just taken a "savefile" from ices2. The bumps aren't happening. It's got to be in icecast2! Now, I know that the current version of icecast has fixes...

ices2 and Icecast2 on debian configuration question
Hi there, I have a Debian sarge 512 MB RAM machine with icecast2 and ices2 that I installed via aptitude. I have a 3MBit/s download and 800KBit/s upload link. I would like to configure icecast2 and ices2 properly. Here is my situation: 1)I have a dtdns address omac.darktech.org 2)icecast2 and ices2 on port 8000 would be fine. 3)I simply want to broadcast my 6 year ol...

problem with config file for jack with ices2-kh-2.0.0-kh60a
hi, i am desperately trying to get this version of ices up and running on debian etch. i used the apt repository at http://www.fbriere.net/debian/ices2/ but i found this also affects the "official" source package at http://mediacast1.com/~karl/ when i try to run an edited version of either the example file provided with the source package or the deb at /usr/share/doc/ices2-kh/ i get: Failed to read config file "ices-jack.xml&quo...

ices2 not re-connecting on live stream
...rror occurs, the instance does not reconnect. > > The ESTABLISHED connection is the instance which didn't get blocked by > iptables. > and those sockets seem to remain in CLOSE_WAIT until i kill the ices > process. This sounds similar to what I encountered when I first set up ices2 -- see <http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/2004-July/007364.html>. In short, if you're streaming over a WAN, the main ices2 branch is woefully inadequate, and you ought to try Karl Heyes' branch at <http://mediacast1.com/~karl/>, as he described in his reply to my original...

Several Questions about Ices2 & icecast2
Hi, i have got a linux debian woody box with icecast2 and ices2 on it. I'm running a 24/7 stream with a huge playlist on my server, but I've got some questions about it: 1. Is it possible, that ices updates Metadata (Artist - Track) to the icecast Server in playlist mode? 2. Is there any possibility of controlling ices2 by a webinterface with functi...

Freedomaudio player
Hi folks Got Icecast2 running on Redhat8 with IceS2 as a source, streaming some OGG files. All works nicely (not _especially_ reliable :) but it seems to lock up the Freedomaudio java player between tracks. Everytime a new file begins, the player stops and says 'Loading'. I'm wondering if it's somehthing to do with metadata - is ther...

Icecast and Ices2 manual pages
Hello everyone, In the process of packaging Icecast and Ices2 for Debian, it was necessary for me to write a set of minimal manual pages to satisfy policy requirements. Since I would be adding them to CVS as part of the debian/ directories anyway, I thought I would present them here, so they could perhaps be integrated with the other forms of packaging. The...

ezstream
...to use to upstream. Currently we are using darkice which seems to work well. However it does not support playlists. I have looked at muse-streamer but it is currently far to unstable. Therefore ices or ezstream seem to be the option. From what I can gather mp3/lame is not very well supported in ices2 (if atall) therefor ezstream seems the one to go for. It is at a very low version. Have people had success with it. Also what is its relationship with ices2 (i.e. pro/cons). Is it being developed as an alternative? Ices2 and Jack
>From what I have read on some mailing lists, there is a jack module for ices2 that works quite well. Why isn't this information on the ices2 web page or documentation? Ices is useless to me without this, yet so awesome with it. I saw requests from people for you to do this over a month ago. What's the problem? Thanks, Daniel P.S. I couldn't search this list...

low bandwidth broadcasting using ices2
Is there any way to bring the bitrate in ices2 down below 32 kbps? I'm setting up a demo for someone of how to use linux to do net radio broadcasting. The setup I'm thinking of is to use ardour plus jack to mix two (maybe more) input sources (live audio and recorded tracks/programmes), then send the mixed audio to ices2 for streaming t...
