Thanks for the info. After taking a quick look at ices2 I decided it would probably be a lot easier to hack ices1 to do multiple streams from the same playlist. I've got it working except for metadata updates (and I commented out the lame reset code between songs to see if that was still necessary, and it is :) - I'll post a patch probably later today after I've fixed those two things and gone ove...

multiple ices streams and misc other stuff?
...had it running? The reason I'm asking is that I have received a number of requests to stream my mp3 stream at various bitrates. I kind of think running three ices streamers is silly if multiple streams will be available in the near future. Another question is the ices2.x cvs the same as for ices1.x and if so what is the module name? Will ices2.x be able to reencode either ogg or mp3 files? It would be nice if I could start mixing vorbis material in with my mp3 without having to start all over. And one other point, which isn't a question at all, I believe Jack or someone mentioned tha...

Icecast2 under OpenBSD - update
...;t be able to add it, but someone else should be able to do so pretty easily, if anyone is interested. It also doesn't have crossfading, and won't - crossfading annoys the crap out of me on radio, having it on internet radio as well would just annoy me even more. Scripting support (like in ices1) for more general playlist manipulation support (though you can do this externally without requiring explicit support) will get added at some point, it's actually really easy to add - but again, I don't have the time at the moment for new features. Question from a newby
My name is Chuck and I am very very new to Icecast. I work at a Radio Reading Service and I am looking for something that will let me stream audio and be played on both a pc, mac/Iphone. In short, will Icecast do this? Thanks to all who respond to a question that I'm sure for some will seem very elementary at best!!! Chuck

stupid question
Here's a stupid question: Do icecast/ices 2 ONLY support vorbis, or can they still handle mp3s? I am not ready to stream only vorbis yet, since I don't know how many people are equipped to hear them. If icecast/ices 2 don't support mp3, then I have some hacking to do on ices 1 (namely, I want to play the same stream at two bitrates concurrently), but if icecast/ices 2 do, then

Using icecast2 with MP3 problems
I've downloaded and compiled icecast from cvs and the ices-0.2.3 from the download area for MP3 support.. (I'd use ogg, except I have 1000's of mp3. I'll re-rip them, but not today) 8) Is there a particular version of the icecast2 server that works w/ the ices-0.2.3 I'm using? I'm having difficulty getting the two to communicate. >From ices, I get the errors: Error

Icecast2 under OpenBSD - update
Hi, I've come a step further in my attempt to compile Icecast2 under OpenBSD... I didn't have the pth library installed (d'oh), but ´cd /usr/ports/devel/pth && make install´ did the job. It still bails out at the same point, though, but this time with another error message: [...] gcc -O20 -fsigned-char -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/local/include/libxml -I/usr/local/include -I/include

Hardware-based Icecast source client
Hi all, I'm in the midst of creating a turnkey Icecast source client embedded in a plug computer, using Ices2. I've hacked together some scripts to automate the starting and stopping of a live stream (launched by pressing buttons on the device). It's dead easy once the network/server is configured - you just plug it in, push a button and you're live. It accepts any Debian
