So, you have an icecast server configured to handle two independent streams of mp3 data, each of which is coming from a running copy of "icegenerator"? Part of the confusion up to this point is that icecast doesn't read mp3 files, or m3u files, or anything else except its own configuration file, but I think Mr. Ruecker is assuming that since you are being told to restart icecast by hand anyway that there's something very odd in...

Automatic Update of MP3 Files
So I have a new Icecast setup with two channels, each of which carries a link to MP3 files. Whenever I update the .m3u file to reflect a changed link, I have to restart Icecast and the Icegenerator to make it recognize the change. Is there a way to automate this process? So when I update the file link, that?s reflected in the stream, which auto updates too? How do I go about this? Peace, Gene Steinberg

...ories are enabled and by checking the package version of Icecast using the 'rpm' command. Probably something like "rpm -q icecast". In most cases you'll have an init script and can use: /etc/init.d/icecast That will give you control of the Icecast server process. Seeing that icegenerator is in /usr/local that means it was installed from source, combined with the instructions you posted previously there seems to be no init script for that. To sum up, I can currently state: - Use the init script to start/stop Icecast - Follow the instructions given to you for the rest Regarding you...

playlist streaming
is it true it's not possible to start or stop indvidual streams using icecast2+icegenerator(liveice,ezstream) combination? i've tried mp3 directory streaming as well as playlist streaming - it works, but with no possibility to see full mp3 file listing and play control (like choosing a song, starting, stopping play). Icecast can't even diferentiate /dev/dsp input from playlist in...

...random order. I do not require anything special, like random ads, scheduling support, etc. I've given Liquidsoap a try, but it seems to be far too complex for my understanding at the moment. I'd have to write a script just to randomly rotate through a folder of music. I've also tried IceGenerator, but I can't get it to install. After running configure, it says that I'm missing the Libshout2 library. I have Libshout3 installed, but can't find a copy of Libshout2. Does anyone have any ideas for another source I might be able to use? Thank you for reading.

Nicecast (Mac) to Icecast/Icecast2
Dear group, I have a problem configuring my NiceCast to work with my IceCast server. Perhaps one of you can tell me how to solve the described issue I currently have. Situation is as follows: I run two gateways in my private network: (a) 10.10.10.100 and (b) 10.10.10.200. My webserver is running on (c) 10.10.10.30 on which I have my internet radio station running. Port from and to (c)

Icecast install under Windows
Yes, I think you might be on to something there. I'm tempted to switch to Linux for the streaming part of this setup... I have 2 Windows machines that I use now, 1 for the radio automation & the other for streaming & editing audio files. What Linux OS do you recommend? Ubuntu? What radio automation software do you recommend? I had Icecast working last year but when we upgraded
